Currently there are some Tustin areas that are currently within the IUSD boundaries. If I buy here am I at risk of the boundary line changing and being put in the Tustin school system? Is there a grandfather clause in this case?

There's always a chance of re-zoning.  Usually, once a child starts a school, the student can usually finish the school if re-zoning occurs.  But, say your kid started elementary in IUSD, but the jr high and high got re-zoned to TUSD, then you would have to attend the re-zoned jr high and HS.  FWIW, most if not all TUSD schools right next to Irvine are equally as good as their Irvine counterparts.  Some might say better, i.e. Beckman HS vs Northwood HS.

Hmm-it can be worse. Live in Irvine and zoned for Santa Ana School District like CPW. ;)

Funny question since I just took a Villages of Irvine survey and there were many questions regarding a similar topic.  Questions like, how much would it matter if you were zoned for TUSD vs. IUSD, do you care more about IUSD vs. TUSD or the quality of the actual school within the district.  Pretty obvious at what Villages of Irvine is trying to get at.  I would always buy a property zoned for IUSD with no chance of being rezoned to TUSD if I had the choice.

I find this interesting because the schools in TUSD that service the Irvine addresses are on par with IUSD (including the ones that service Tustin Ranch).
