But plans for a new stadium at University High School have divided many parents and students – who argue that one stadium isn't enough for a city of more than 200,000 – and some nearby homeowners – who claim a new stadium would overwhelm their neighborhood and clog nearby streets.

The proposed 3,600-capacity stadium would be located on the north side of the University High School campus, within an area currently occupied by a football practice field and track.

The stadium design includes home and visiting team bleachers, lighting, a public address system, concessions stands, restrooms and ticket booths. Woodbridge and University High would share the facilities for varsity and home games.

Council members Larry Agran and Christina Shea – political rivals who are often at-odds over controversial Irvine issues – found a common cause in criticizing the stadium plan during an April 29 discussion centering on possible permit parking near the school.
