Need recommendation for an architect to tear down/rebuild

Looking at a single story home in CdM  that was not updated since the original construction in 1960s. The home is a single story 2400sq ft house on a good size lot. What would be a ballpark cost range to either tear it down and rebuild or to comprehensively remodel it?

Is finding an architect the right first step? Can anyone recommend one (of the kind that design homes in Laguna Beach)?

There used to be a guy named BKShopper back in the days of the IHB who was a good architect. He doesn't come around here though. Maybe ask irvinehomeshopper to see if he can recommend a good architect
