What gave you the first clue? Was it the boarded up windows, or the bricks missing from the facade?

While this is certainly not the worst area of Harlem, the westside, it certainly isn't the best. Just go play around with google street view. It's okay in the daytime, but the tenements just around the corner make nighttime a little scary. But hey, you are really close to the Bronx and Yankees game. Anyone been to the Bronx?
That portion of the row has not been properly maintained. The article even says so.
In any case, these are occupied buildings (except for that one) that are over a hundred years old.

More proof to my theory that a house, properly maintained, can last forever. Don't overpay for a brand new house, IMHO.

I used to mountain bike in da bronx.
It is full of wonderful parks and abandoned rail lines turned into linear parks.
