NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
We are considering getting a van as well. I have heard from friends that the automatic doors are the thing to have. I just want to find something that is not too difficult to park.

Still waiting for the SE. Supposed to come out in a few weeks.

So funny, I joke about it, but I am most likely going to get a "sports" mini-van. 19" wheels and ground skirts on a mini-van... PIMP!

Don't forget about the racing stripes across the middle of the car, clear corner, exhaust and lowered.

I would get the XLE too... but I'm not a fan of leather.

@cam: Sadly, the 2011 Sienna does not have purple in its pallette (I would consider it depending on the execution).

@fe9000: But the SE does have smoke covered LED tail lights and lower stance... I guess I could buy chrome tips for the exhaust. And I need to add a wing.

So what are your methods for getting a good deal on a new car?  The last time, we got online quotes from various dealers.  We then pitted the quotes against each other and took the lowest quote.

This time around, I'll do the same thing.  The only difference is that I'll throw in the quote from overstock.com cars section.  They seem to give great quotes.  I'm not big on dealing with car salesmen.

I use Costco.

I've been told their discounts are the best compared to online sites because they do larger volume.

Plus, when you go with the Fleet Discount salesperson (which is usually who handles Internet/discount sales), there is a more upfront approach and less haggling involved. My last few transactions I did by email, determined a price, went in and bought/leased it.

Were you guys able to get options added through Costco also and at discounted prices during the car purchase?

For Costco there is no online pricing/options.

You basically tell them what type of vehicle you want and they refer you to local dealers in the Costco program.

You contact them and tell them what you want but you have to see them in person and show them your Costco membership card and they will tell you how much over invoice (or sometimes under) they will add.

So you can price your vehicle using something like carsdirect.com or edmunds.com and bring that in to see if the Costco price is better.

I'd like to get the cross bar for the roof rails.  I don't think that they're standard.  I'm also thinking of getting the door sill covers/mats.  I hope that they'll have a big Memorial day sale.

For all of you owners, which mini-van do you recommend?
I'm partial to Toyota, even with the recent issues. I've had 5 different vehicles with them and no problems... so my personal experience overrides public outcry.

I love my Sienna (04), we also owned a Honda Odyssey for 3 years and that was good too... some things better, some things worse than the Sienna. Honda has an all-new model coming out this fall so you may want to wait for that. The only other option (for me) would be the Chrysler (which is the same as the VW) but it's smaller.

I'm committed to getting the new Sienna soon... and Patrick Star will be jealous.

jvna: Do you need the crossbars? I have them on mine but I never used the rack so maybe that's why they are not standard anymore. I read somewhere that they run $185... so not a big hit.

Toyota has a special lease package (with free 2-year maintenance) on the LE through Memorial Day so you may want to ask what they have for the XLE.

I will be jealous of the swaggerwagon.  But you'll be jealous when I get my 3CWG. ;)

Wow CK, you are getting a 3CWG! How.. When... Where???  Very Nice :)

IHO... yeah, we'll need the cross bars.  We usually take multiple trips to the bay area up north and have a roof cargo box that I attach.  I'm not fully sure we'll need it with the mini-van, but we may.  We'll have a mini-van, but we also now have a 3rd little one.

Also, I want to buy and not lease.  I don't want to worry about mileage or condition of the car.

Buy KOREAN Mini VAn. KOREAN mini vans are berry berry nice.... :)

I have to admit the new Sonata looks really nice (and I see quite a few of them in Irvine... of course) and I sometimes confuse the Genesis with an MBZ.

But they probably need one or two more generations before their Entourage/Sedona is up to par with the Sienna/Odyssey.

By the way IHO, somebody was looking for you.  Something about a girl you were making out with in a 3CWG?  Not sure if I got that story straight --- maybe you need to call her and correct the record.
I'm still waiting for someone to call me back to explain themselves... until then... everyone can keep guessing.

Riddle me this Patman: What's made of metal and allows you to walk?
