True. However, everybody in Miami, well, almost everybody, parks on lawns, even in very nice neighborhoods. Right under the lawn is solid rock, or in Brevard, sand. Also, there are often no curbs and sidewalks, so where you are supposed to park is not always obvious. This is in the older areas, many very expensive..

So I am used to seeing lawn parking. Unless you do it all the time, the lawn isn't hurt. Here, not there.
 
Parking on lawns is a Florida way of life, I must admit. It seems that not many homeowners bother to expand their driveways to create a pad next to the house for additional parking.

We have clay soils in OC. Consistant lawn parking = monsterously compacted soils = no lawn.

This home looks like somebody bought it and moved three families in with them to offset the payment. The dead giveaway? The lawn.

Is there a way to find out more info on that 47 Picket Lane place? Like the sq. ft.? I am curious because I sold my place in that development in April 2006.
 
Okay, thanks. At 1600, then that is the same floor plan as the one I sold. I can't believe there are still some there for sale in the 600s. The homes originally sold with about $25k separating the smallest of the 3 floor plans from the largest. It is interesting to see the asking prices there now range by over $100k.

It's on the edge of the GG/Anaheim border, right behind the Anaheim Conv. Center. Walking distance to Disneyland. So fairly decent, but not the best.
 
IR - yes, I got very lucky. I wish I could claim I was smart, but I wasn't. If I hadn't had a couple unbearable neighbors, I would still be there. Maybe I should go back and thank them.

We bought our place in 1999 for 280k with 100% financing (30 yr fixed). We had plenty of income and could have bought a much bigger place, but we wanted to be able to make it on one income if we needed to. We never took any equity out of the house and sold in 2006 for 640k. When we bought, we thought the market was already kind of high. We didn't think it would go up a lot after we bought. I'm glad we were wrong about that. Now we have a big downpayment for our next place that we will buy in 2009/2010. We don't need anything bigger than the place we had, so we are hoping to buy a place in Irvine or NB for somewhere in the 500s and have the same mortgage payment we had 7 years ago. So, we had some smarts involved, but mostly luck.
