Let's go over a very basic value proposition:
- How much did you pay in Federal taxes in 2008?
- How much did you pay in State/local taxes in 2008?
(you can include your sales tax, estimate it at ~3% of your gross income)
Now, what did you get for it:
- What services did you get from the Federal government?
- What services did you get from the State/local government?
I can't think of any (of value to me) service I really got from the Federal gov't, despite paying it 3 times more in tax.
You can say "defense", but do you really think feds' foreign policy and its military extension make you more secure?
Now, how did this happen? Surely this wasn't the Founding Fathers' design.
