Actually, I read a news story (sorry no link) about a young guy who's parents did that when he was a kid and they got foreclosed upon.
The young guy bought a place he could afford with his spouse, and then continued living like students when they started working, and managed to pay the place off in 5 years because he had an unholy fear of foreclosure.
So ...
That was like my parents, they uhh... neglected, to pay their taxes. I just remember eating alot of veggies, beans, rice and small amounts of chicken for about six months. Savings more, spending less, loving each other through hard times, being forgiving and kind. Easy lessons taught in a not so easy way.
