no calling or cyberstalking - my ex wife and i have some mutual friends who kind of keep us in the loop as to what the other is doing. girlfriends prior to my first wife are way too long ago and dont care what they are doing now. i left my first wife for my second wife, so no in between girlfriends to crank or cyber-stalk.

That is simple. I troll the sites where Irvine Johns post their hunts and trophy encounters. Just like this site where people talk about finding the best house for the cheapest price and use a little of your imagination. One can choose Bedroom and bath count on the multiple listings too. You will be surprised to learn that the filth that Irvine affiliates do not want you to know. A few years ago an IP detective alerted me of the UPS and mail thefts and other victimless crimes. I learned about the site and was totally blown away to learn Irvine soccer moms turn tricks while their husband is at work.

Absolutely because he has money and just bought the Portebello estates in CDM. This is Irvine a land with very little integrity. We idolize the rich as piss at the poors like those living in Ave One.
We ally with the strongest and it is the survival of the fittest. From all I have read he is the sharpest in his financial strategies and the rest have not really impressed me. Even in Irvine not all are created equal. There are the bottom feeders and there are the affluents. One could still live in Irvine but being looked down on because they live in communal style housing.
Your Crib define your level of success. We learn to look down on those with color, ethnicity, and which village one resides and this is absolutely acceptable in this city.
To get ahead in Irvine we have to brown nose, play the politic right, and I am finally learning it after 30 years being in this city.

You have a good taste for homes and culture and of all the cities you could have purchased in you picked the most vanilla and mundane of all being so opposite from the Maybeck or Morgan during your younger years?

I think you are asking why I live in Irvine and not someplace more architecturally interesting, like the Bay Area? Let's see. When deciding where to live, we had a few things to consider. Work was in Irvine, and we also wanted to be close to family in northern OC. And we wanted to be somewhere suburban. Irvine is definitely boring, but I think all suburbs are. Is Irvine any more boring than Mission Viejo, or Ladera Ranch, or Aliso Viejo? I don't think so...I think they are all boring. But we knew that going in. I love cities, I love the excitement and vibrance, but I love *visiting* them, rather than living in one, at this point in my life.
So ok, we had the suburbs of Orange County to choose from. We were not committed to any one particular city. (It's so funny, I never thought of Irvine as "prestigious" at all. I was completely dumbfounded when I first read on IHB that Irvine is a status symbol among certain communities. I thought, and still think, that is completely crazy. To me, a prestigious place to live is beach-close like Newport, or Beverly Hills or something.) So anyway, we looked at houses in Fountain Valley, Huntington Beach, Aliso Viejo, Irvine, Laguna Niguel, and Foothill Ranch. We were just looking for the right house that spoke to us, at a decent price, in a decent area. We actually almost bought in Laguna Niguel, but backed out of escrow when we discovered serious problems during the home inspection. (I actually really like Laguna Niguel a lot, because it has a more green and "tropical" feel, unlike desert-y Irvine.) But we had been looking for nearly a year and were in a hurry to buy, so when the next reasonable house that came along, we bought it. And now we're here!
Of course, we didn't do everything perfectly. As you may know, it took us something like nine months to remodel the house to our liking. Also, if I had it to do over again, I think I would have also looked in North Tustin and Orange, two areas I now like but was not familiar with at the time we were looking.
Our house is in an older area of Irvine, built in the 70s, so I really don't see much difference between it and a lot of other homes in similar areas of OC. I think a lot of the problems people have with Irvine, and why it is the poster-child for suburban blandness, is due to the new developments, not the older areas. My house is a boring tract house, but it's comparable to a boring tract house elsewhere, in my opinion. Architecturally (and I know nothing about architecture so I'm just babbling nonsensically here), I like the style of homes built in the mid-to-late part of last century. To me, they represent classic American suburbia, similar the house I grew up in (which was built in 1969), so they make me feel cozy and comfortable.
Whew! I think that may have been the longest truth or dare answer ever. Isn't truth or dare supposed to be where we confess what boy we have a secret crush on? And here I am, writing some diatribe about my house-purchase thinking process. What a dork I am. Nobody's ever gonna let me play again...
