My wife (then girlfriend) threatened not to sign loan docs on our home purchase unless we were engaged. I popped the question a few weeks before escrow closing! One mortgage was way cheaper than two rents back then so we spent a bundle on the wedding. Kept it small but very nice...

What's with the get married, buy a $400,000 house thing? I thought the stereotype was newlywed's rent some cheap place for several years, drive used cars. Then they save up and buy big TV and a sporty car for him. Then they save some more, and eventuallysell his sporty car to scrape together enough to get in hock for an older SFR place when it's time to have kids.

Lennar spent more time shaking hands with Politicians than improving their products. City council members live in Lennar houses and I just wonder why? Lennar was able to convince the City of Irvine to go vertical with housing before studying what the consumers really wanted. The city is pro-Lennar but the consumers are a lot smarter and know that its products are really not that good. The stucco modern at CPW with "wing" like roofs resemble a monster dragon than a home. I will soon see a flame of fire.

As to weddings being cheap... uhhh no. Most weddings aren't cheap nowadays. Although I agree most brides and mom's are completely retarded in the amount of money they spend.... save that money and get a HUGE jump ahead.... I guess i'm just too practical.

I agree. That's exactly what we did and we were able to buy a house a lot earlier than all of our friends. I wouldn't change a thing.

My sister-in-law BEGGED her parents to give her the $50k they spent on the wedding so she and my brother could buy a home. Her parents didn't budge - THEY wanted the big elaborate wedding with relatives flying in from everywhere. Whaddya gonna do?
Has anyone checked out the "single-family homes" Lennar id advertising in Orange?? $400k???
