If LawyerLiz is around (or anyone who has a clue 'bout this stuff in FL), I'm desperate and need a pointing in the right direction.

My father (Panama City Beach, Bay County, FL) is 70 yrs, not competent, and an alcoholic troublemaker. He can't work and is pretty much a wreck and a jacka$$. But he's my Dad (and he wasn't always that way)...

He took out a reverse mortgage (25%)...and now is out of money. Is there anything else that can be done to suck $$ out of that house for him to live on? That house is all he's got in terms of assets, so if we can't figure something out he'll be on the street (can't live with me or my sis b/c he'll steal, wreck our lives, etc).

I'm not asking for specifics, but if someone can point me where to start looking, I'd appreciate it very much.

THANK YOU

4walls - I have no idea, but I want to tell you that my heart goes out to you. I can not imagine the hurt this must cause you and yours.

I thought at that age once you ran out of money you became a ward of the state, so to speak, and that Medical would take over. Not sure about this, but this has always been my belief.

Looks like LL answered your question, and she would know.

Also, AARP.org has a ton of resources that could help if you still need more info. They have a section called Benefits QuickLINK that can also point you to specific resources available.

Good luck!

LawyerLiz,

I emailed you my fax number. If you have a moment to fax the info, I'd really appreciate it.

Thank you :)

Sorry, I've been swamped with work--litigation, not closings. Stuff is down in the car.

He already has one; equity must support a higher one and there's heavy fees.
