landscape company recommendations

I am at Portola and a lot of people are going with Jefferson Rand.  They seem to be doing good work but a bit pricey.  Anybody know a reputable company that don't overcharge?  For 2600 sq ft backyard/frontyard, $55-60K seems a bit much.  No pool, no barbeque pit. 
 
ive never had to do any landscape work on a new house but anything over 10-15K seems like overkill - for 55-60K, im guessing its a very very nice hardscape design.

Try the referral sites like AngiesList or ServiceMagic. I think I got my last landscaper many years ago from ServiceMagic when it was called something else.

Or you can hang out at Home Depot or Lowe's and hope that Ahmed from YardCrashers is there. :D

Which brings up something... does Sonoma include front yard landscaping? I don't think it does but Montecito does (which makes sense seeing how little front it actually has).
 
If you are sure you are not violating the guidelines they gave you then you can start the work before
recieving the approval.

Sonoma and Carmel does not include front yard landscaping.  I think with the motor court design, they really have to include the front yard landscaping.  One bad design or one oversized tree or bush will be all it takes to really mess up the entire motor court and 4 or 6 homes on it.  I do have to give credit to Montecito for including the brick paver driveway as standard.  That makes the motorcourt look nicer than it would have been with concrete.

Hi everyone!  I'm relatively new to TI :)  I've been talking to some landscaping companies and have narrowed my choices down to two: 1) KS Landscaping and 2) Jefferson Rand.  Does anybody have any opinions/experience on either they'd be willing to share?  And info would be appreciated!

I highly recommend Jo from Echo Family. I found him because many of the homes in my neighborhood in Mendocino were using him. No better way to assess any contractor's work than seeing it for your own eyes. I looked at the quality of his work and was very impressed. After receiving quotes from multiple landscape companies, I chose another contractor initially because they gave me the best price. But unfortunately, that contractor kept on pushing the start date further and further out...and eventually, I got so fed up I called Jo to see if he can help me out. He took my business and he completed the job in 2 weeks. I am so pleased with the results and get compliments all of the time! Most importantly, Jo and his team does the job right without cutting corners and adjusts to my needs. It is all according to code and HOA approval is almost complete!

Yes, I read the thread and made my decision to go with Jo because of the quality of the work that I saw him doing in my community in Stonegate. I also talked to my neighbors and they gave me a thumbs up.

My experience with Jo was smooth and easy. Completed in 2 weeks.
 
Well I'm glad that thread helped you make your landscaping decision.  We may talk a lot of shit here, but at least you know we're not shilling for that company.
