Kura

Go to Anjin or Manpouku in Costa Mesa - great Japanese BBQ and the meat is marinated and high quality.

Yeah, bbq but unlike the Koreans, there is no marinated meat, no kimchi, no bibimbap and the veggies are served moreso as part of the entree. Also the sauces are Japanese... like ponzu and that creamy horseradish dip. I like marinated meat and sort of expected it. It was a bit disappointing to find out the Japanese don't do it that way. To me, that's the most noticeable difference between the Japanese and kbbq. But it was still alright.

I took the wife to Sushi Murasaki.  Their web site quotes lunch omakase (10 pieces) at $50-70.  Let's just say the prices have gone up since, so call first.  Alternatively you can order the premium lunch sushi set, which also includes 10 pieces of sushi plus sides, for $26:

Wife also got a bottle of Pomelo Paradise for v-day:https://www.ateliercologne.com/pomelo-paradis-200-ml.html

You can go to Sephora at Cerritos Mall (or other locations) to try their perfumes.  However if you want to purchase the less expensive 30 ml bottle the stores won't always have it in stock, so you'll need some time to order it.  If you like this scent they also have scented soap, lotion and shower gel avail.  You should try the scents in-store first.  Of all the selections from Atelier I only liked 2, so I would not have liked the 16 vial "discovery set".  The benefit of ordering the discovery set is that it's $35 and you get $35 voucher, so it's basically free:

As for Yakiniku (Japanese style BBQ), if you prefer the traditional rectangle grill instead of the round type, try Tsuruhashi in FV.  Not cheap, but meat quality is good:

Sushi Koto nearby in FV also does Sunday AYCE brunch for $35:

Gyu Kaku in Tustin also has marinated meats.
Anjin and Manpuku both grill over charcoal and have higher quality meat than Gyu Kaku. There is a better chain than Gyu Kaku in Japan called Toraji - I wish they would open one here.

If you like really good teppanyaki try Tama-en in Lomita. The best around!

+1 for Tsuruhashi. Really outstanding - where Ichiro used to go when in town to play the Angels. Can get very crowded and they sell out of the good stuff early.

I saw ichiro at anjin.  His wife got mad when some girls asked him to take pics with them.
