Knott's Kit Car Show. . .

For the last four years, I've gone to the Knott's Kit Car show, which is the biggest show of it's kind in the West. Basically, this is where the biggest and best fabricators of kit cars get together to show their stuff. Fake Ferraris and Lamborghinis that are indistinguishable from the "real" thing are all over this show. The best cars there are like works of art and craftsmanship, and some of them even have power just like the cars they imitate.

The late 1960's Shelby Cobra is the original replica car, and it was popularized because the real thing had an incredibly limited production run. The vast majority of Cobras you see are kits. The 1980's Pontiac Fiero inspired the next wave of replicas because the advent of a cheap car that was mid-engined meant that replica bodies of Ferraris and Lamborghinis could essentially be bolted right onto the chassis. And a large engine bay in the Fiero meant that any huge engine that you would want to drop in could fit. What would a completed "turnkey" luxury exotic replica run you? About $30,000. Along with its being cheap to insure and maintain, the deal is that much sweeter.

The idea that "fake" cars (or other things) can be manufactured draws the ire of many. I find this fact interesting, as well as the broader question of what is "real," "fake," "authentic," etc. But mostly, I go to see the cars. I'm going to be going on Saturday the 26th with a few friends, if you'd like to join, you're more than welcome.

By the way, I don't pay the parking fee of $8. I get free "replica" parking in the neighborhoods just across the street.

I park across the street right in front of Kohl's and walk over. Not because I'm cheap, but because I hate door dings.

I've never went to the kit car show, but I went to the Ford event on Sunday.

No Vas and Bix! I knew you two would have some take on this show. Where are you showing, Bix? And No Vas, thanks for the advice, and I'd encourage you to come out to this.

It is a fun show with lots of DIY types. I had my Superformance Cobra Repro with a 600hp motor in it several years ago. I have since sold the monster.

Another good show at Knotts is the All Ford show which I used to go about 6:30 am with a beach chair and sit at the entry and watch and LISTEN to each car being driven into the show area. Its exciting to watch a few burn outs with guys getting lowered cars up the inclined curb.

I finally made a decision on a rifle and obtained a Rock River AR-15 carbine in M4 style. I went to the range last week and fired it a while. Very cool weapon. Same as Rock River makes for the DEA but in Semi-Auto. Collapsable stock, 16" barrel with rails on all four sides of the barrel for scopes, lights, lasers and such.

Enjoy!
