Kindle - have you used it?

We have a Sony e-reader. The screen looks like paper. It does not light up from the back. You have to be in a lit space in order to see the text. This is what makes it easy on the eyes.

Digital books are so much cheaper and many times free on the Internet. The cost of the e reader is pricey but it pays off if you read a lot.

my wife has a first gen kindle that she loves more than me. aside from the "next page/last page" buttons being too big and easily pressed unintentionally, she loves it. she knows it's not a winner based on economics (the discount on ebooks doesn't justify the price of a kindle), but she loves her gadget nonetheless.

the display is clear, no problem reading in the sun...did i mention she loves it more than she loves me?
 
also, she said the sony reader isn't as good, but i can't remember why...the 2nd gen kindle doesn't have enough new features to justify upgrading so she's keeping hers.

i've never used that thing, but sure has heard a lot about it from her...
 
My college student daughter who is a voracious reader has the "new generation" Kindle and loves it. She says it is easier on her eyes than using the IPhone application (which is what she started with...) and she believes she can read even faster with Kindle than with a regular book. (She's always been close to a "speed reader" just naturally.) She has had no trouble with the downloads, and thinks the availablity of titles is really great. Her only identified limitation is that it doesn't lend itself well to research oriented reading, because she's so used to the "yellow highlighter" method.

Free, if only my family could manage to return books on time. oh well...
 
I have a Kindle 2 and I love it. It is very easy on the eyes. The fonts do lose some contrast if you decrease the font size in the settings, but the default size is very clear.

I love the fact that you can purchase books over the air and have them delivered to you wirelessly (it uses Sprints EVDO network).

I has definitely increased my desire to read more books.

The new Kindle DX just got announced today and should be shipping sometime this summer.
 
FYI - Amazon began taking pre-orders for the new Kindle DX today. It has a larger screen than the Kindle 2, but is much more expensive and not ready until Summer. I'm intrigued, but would probably stick with the Kindle 2 or Sony Reader due to the lower cost...
