I want to prepare for buying a home eventually. 

Just thought I would ask if anyone would recommend a good mortgage lender who is working for us, not for a real estate agent.
I wanted to add honest to my list, but I thought that might be asking for too much.  :)  Kind of like asking for an honest lawyer.

Since being a homeowner starting in '05, I have obtained two purchase mortgages, gone thru 4 refi's, and just got into another refi yesterday.  All were different lenders, big banks (Countrywide), smaller zillow brokers, etc.  What I noticed thru all this is that honesty doesn't really play a factor in all this.  All the requirements/docs are pretty much boilerplate.  You cover your butt by doing your homework (don't apply for extra credit cards, pay off that car loan, don't deposit Chinese New Year cash in one lump sum, have 6 months PITI, etc.)  You lock your rate and pray that all the players are efficient (I hate condo HOAs!).  As long as your look great on paper, you can't really be cheated.  Lenders can't switch rates on you last minute, the credit they give you at closing is spelled out way before, spend an extra minute reading the Note and Deed of Trust with the notary (rest is standard boilerplate).  As for a broker working with a real estate agent.. why not?  You want a competent lender with a purchase loan... you'll lose the house or pay expensive fees if you don't close on time.  A lender with a good relationship with a realtor can smooth over a lot of the many bumps during a real estate transaction...With a refi... you might be out $4-500 bucks on the appraisal deposit if things go horribly wrong.. but most can stomach that loss.
