4,000 cars every weekend during the summer won't impact traffic?  And GP residents won't hear any noise?

Irvine to vote on proposed interim amphitheater near Great Park

The proposed amphitheater, at the end of the runways of the former El Toro Marine Corps Air Station, would be accessible from Chinon via Irvine Boulevard and from Great Park Boulevard via Sand Canyon Avenue or Jeffrey Road.

The site will have a 4,000-space parking lot. Parking cost would be included in the ticket price, according to the staff report.

City staff determined that the construction and operation of the amphitheater would not have much impact on area traffic, noise and light, and glare. Because the project complies with the city?s regulations and policies, staff recommended the City Council to approve the project, according to their report.

The city could receive at least $20,000 to $30,000 from on-site sales tax if the temporary amphitheater performs similarly to Irvine Meadows.

The article in the OP mentions the Cultural Terrace as a possible final spot.

This would be in the southeast part of Great Park, east of the Sports Park.  Another article mentions it may be smaller than original amphitheater, next to a lake, museum, and restaurants.

?It will be probably different, more modern, maybe not as large, based on the traffic counts that we have to really control at the Great Park. But it?ll be around a lake. It?ll have a lot of restaurants.?

how is this a bad thing?  obviously traffic sucks, but wasn't it like that before when it was in irvine meadows? i would remember that 5-6PM on the 405S was the thing to avoid.

If anything this may be a good thing for residents, because you can just walk or cycle over to to the amphitheater now.

Don't understand the 20-30k in additional sales tax...I'm guessing they mean PER event, right?

I imagine carmagedon at the Sand Canyon / I5 interchange during concert days.

And, if 133 toll road/Irvine blvd exit becomes free, I can see why some people's prediction might come true that there could be premium for PS--eventually.

x 1000!  Like LA traffic, it's usually not because of some accident but just too many cars that creates traffic.  Sand Canyon is going to be nasty.  Still waiting for others to offer other alternatives but I think the 133 is the only way to mitigate some of the traffic.  Yellowfever's list should all increase to +5 to all those communities if they don't  ;)

last time i read, there is a proposal for an entrance/exit, onramp/offramp at trabuco/great park which was funded already from 5/133 which i'm assuming is free?

don't know who has more info on it, but doesn't look to be anytime soon

If they keep it walking distance to the station, a lot of traffic could be offloaded. They would need to partner with metro to delay last train out.

I've been on the train when people were trying to get to an angels game and it was packed. People aren't opposed to public transportation as long as it's convenient

i hope it passes - there is no such thing as a venue having smooth traffic.  When 10K people want to leave the exact same location, there is no smooth way to manage it that incurs zero hassle - the best you can do is try to minimize the impact, as opposed to mitigate it.

If you want pure silence, I recommend one of the walled up and isolated irvine villages lol.
