Influx of foreclosures... err... new posters?

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
[quote author="Serious Weapon" date=1239435704]I mention that IHB is the shizz to the parents I meet at the playground. Toxic plume is a really good icebreaker.

And here I thought I was the only one doing this. :-) "Trichloro-what? I gotta go!..."

IHB is advertised on the Orange Juice Blog and I think several new people must be coming from there. You can definitely get some crazies from that place but it seems that most newbies don't last long. Just look at the member list, it's huge but there is still a core of people that post regularly and they are the ones that keep me here.

Well... if that is the case, then I think this whole thing about no_vas and I being nice needs lighten up a bit. Gotta defend yourselves from the nutters by being nuttier. And I really miss a lot of the old posters who are gone. It certainly makes me post less not having that interaction. BTW, Nude is still a big ugly dumb guy who lives in a dumpster.

You have no idea. There have been at least two users over the last week that I should of chewed in half, and didn't. This sucks.

I'm thinking maybe we could use a simple "How-To" post in the General Mortgage / Irvine Real Estate sections for newbie posters... a "read this before you begin posting" thread... offering tips such as using the search engine.

or just restrict anyone with less than say, 20 posts, from starting a new item.

they could still post in an existing item.

this is common on some forums.

I think there is something like this currently in place. A recent newbie said something to the effect that they are glad their new account is finally activated so they could post. (Maybe I am misreading it.) Before that I didn't know anything had been put in place. But I don't know exactly what that means - starting a new thread or posting in an old one. Maybe Z or a mod can clarify.

You mean like this thread that newbies never read, or how about the tech thread that even senior members who still can't figure out the link button have never read? And... the next post about how do you find out about what is scheduled for the foreclosure auction is going to make me lose it. Use the F"ING search button. I am this close to blowing the nice policy. IHB is not the same, and it is losing it's appeal to those who have answers to complicated questions when the simple and already answered more than once questions are flooding the forums. And... I have tried to be nice as a moderator in pointing out the search button, but that has obviously failed. Some times people need some tough love, otherwise they take advantage of you.

Woah, Nelly! Take a deep breath. hehe. I think we need to make the title bold in the "New Members Start Here" Sticky. People want fast, easy answers. When I used to work in retail and we closed for the night, there would be a big red sign at eye level on the door that said "CLOSED" and people would still knock, look past it, and ask if we're open... time & time again. They like to have a person specifically tell them what to do. It is human nature and it will never, ever, change. Let's continue reminding new people to use the search feature and provide them a link to those threads you have posted. If necessary, repeat yourself nicely until they understand how to go about it. Maybe offer mod assistance through a PM so they are aware that there is help available to give them the tools they need to get info. If older bloggers don't want to be bothered by it, how about not replying and letting somebody else respond. I hope we can keep this a reputable site that people will want to be a part of and so it can continue to grow and get more national attention that it deserves. Cheers.

Sometimes that answer is "You're a moron".

Ah ha! Once again the no_v base case assumption is proven correct!

The fourm bites because of lack of snark and the exidus of snarkier users. It also bites because contrarian users like Janet aren't around to play with. She was nuts (and yes she was -she willfully bought a home on a former toxic waste dump!) but she wasn't a moron. The people we've had here lately (for the most parts) have been just dolts.

I was thinking about this all morning, and I got a PM from another user that made me think even more.

How much of our past IHB participation was voyourism, akin to watching an impending train wreck? Cause the wreck is over, and all we're doing is watching people die. Watching folks pass away is no fun.

Well, it is a transition for the forum and group.

it is now less "will it fall", than "how much" and "when"

plus, some of the "bull" or at least "buyer information" stuff has started to become more important as people are questioning if it is the time, and if so where and how.

personally, I like this transition as it is more 'hopeful' and allows me to think more specifically about being happily ensconsed on my own 40 acres (sans mule)

No, it was that ESL moron who was intested in the Santa Ana Citiplace development (at full list) but was pissed they would only let him use Wells Fargo (because there's NO WAY it gets financed based on the comps) and the guy who spammed up the forum with ten random basic questions that have been answered at least ten times each.
