IAC Parking Woes

I walked to my garage this morning and found that four cars were parked on the opposite curb. The kicker is that only two cars fit decently into that parking curb, so two of those four cars were effectively blocking my way out.



Has anybody had any success with complaining about this issue to their IAC management? I feel like these types of complaints fall on deaf ears, but I've been having to deal with this for over a month now and it's getting old.



I understand that parking is a problem especially late at night, and it sucks for all parties involved, but I still don't feel like not saying anything at all.
 
First, have a towing company number on your cell phone for speed dial. No, its not dealing with the problem directly through management, but you better believe that person will be pissed (giving you satisfaction), and word will spread about people not putting up with that BS anymore.



I would also send a letter (physical or email) rather than a call (so it will be documented) that you moved in to your apartment believing that IAC would uphold their promises to keep the grounds reasonably controlled. You were informed that you could not park illegally or else you would be towed. Here you are complying with the rules <strong>while others do not</strong>... to your specific disadvantage - having your car trapped. Demand <em>immediate </em>action. (but don't make an ultimatum or threat to leave).



This will definitely get their asses moving. It might also be a nice tool in the bag to have handy should other problems arise. (this wont give you lease-breaking power, per se, but should some other dispute come up, it will bolster your position).

MojoJD, I was planning on going to my leasing office today to complain in person and show them the pictures I took with my phone, but I see your point as well. I may just write them a letter and enclose copies of the pictures.
 
Which community do you live in? Parking is bad where I am as well. Its funny because I asked about it before moving in and they told me that they NEVER had any problems, plenty of parking, etc. What a crock.

Woodbury Lane. I actually love it there. Despite the parking issue. And my noisy downstairs neighbor. And the hit-and-miss-on-friendliness leasing staff. Go figure.
 
I thought I found the cure for the no place to park issue @ IAC.

Got a unit with the attached Garage.



Now I just have to deal with the Chinese Lady that insists its fair game to park right in front of my garage about 50% of the day because she has so much stuff in her garage her van does not fit. She always smiles at least when I knock on her door to please move it.

Well, I live in the same kind of setup, but its a problem because both my wife and I have cars. We need one of the extra spots. The problem you bring up with people loading up their garages is the real issue here. Every once in a while I see a garage open and its PACKED with junk. I'd wager that if each of those were cleared out and <strong>used correctly,</strong> then the majority of the parking issues would be solved. It angers me so. I would be more proactive at this point, but I'm only living in IAC apartments another 20 days. :)

Wow, this is weird. I live there too and the parking is rediculous. The curbside parking is a real nuisance as it is too close to the garages, especially when people try to park too many cars there or large vehicles, it makes it tough to maneuver out of the garage. Tried to address it with the leasing office with little to no luck. I've counted at least 3 people in the adjacent building that all have two cars in the lot. The community rules call for 2 cars maximum, with one being parked in the garage. I've pointed this out with little or no luck as well. I was on my way to the leasing office again yesterday to complain but turned around. I'm done with them. My lease is up in a few months and I'll be putting my 30 days in soon.
 
I had issues parking at Villa Coronado, so I complained in person at the leasing office. A few days later a reminder about parking and a garage inspection notice went out, though it might have been coincidence. If you want to go there in person, bring the photos and the letter with you. If I was blocked in, I would have stomped over to the leasing office on the spot to gripe at them, but I'm kinda bitchy/self-righteous about being inconvenienced by other people's lack of consideration. ;) At Woodbury Place the parking gets a bit insane on the weekends, and I am often amused at my neighbor's policy of pulling her car halfway out of the garage so she can do laundry, but my bigger complaint is how fast and <em>wide</em> people drive around the corners.



I appreciate that it can be hard to fit all your crap into the square footage of IAC rentals, but it galls me that people fill up their garages to the point that they can't fit their vehicles in there. Then again, perhaps they should have made the garages big enough to fit 2 SUVs in there. (We have a matchbox car and a motorcycle, but I see a lot of ginormous vehicles parked along the sides.)
 
I had a similar problem and complained to the front office. It took them a couple tries with the neighbor, but they finally got him to stop blocking my garage.

Parking congestion solved after the management evicted the Asian consultant with a home office.
 
I prefer the tow-truck-on-speed dial method. Or, in my professional opinion, you should <strong>throw a brick through the offender's window</strong>. (disclaimer: do not follow my advice). <strong>Seriously, do it.</strong> (disclaimer: don't do it).



Are you talking about the curb sections behind the pool/gym area? if you were to drive around/past the front office and continue toward the back? I'm not sure I know where in the neighborhood the curb parking interferes with the driveways.



edit: while we're on the subject, anyone else find it funny to see <em>new </em>$55,000+ cars in the parking lot owned by residents? Talk about some bad financial priorities. (6/7 series bmw, escalades, range rover, E550, etc)

If I can't afford to lease a 2.5 million dollar house, what's wrong with something in a smaller scale like paying for a monthly lease on a nice E series?

If you drive past the business office, there are a bunch of garages that are directly across these parking curbs. Some allow for three cars, but most of them will only comfortably fit two.
 
I used to visit a friend in Burbank who lived in an "affordable housing" type apartment complex. All his neighbors drove $55K and up cars. I always thought that was funny but sadly I wasn't surprised to see it, either.

Where is Giotto Road in Irvine? This is the only city that I know will go out of the way to sweep the crime elephant under a rug.
 
Reading this tread I have to wonder once again what is the advantage of paying $2500+ a month to rent a cracker jack box versus buying something (maybe not in Irvine).



I love how some (or one) of the people who commented on this thread also said that the reason why they spend a fortune to RENT and APARTMENT was because they wanted to feel special and avoid low income folks (yeah, I'm paraphrasing).
