Birds can transmit diseases such as psittacosis, salmonellosis, campylobacteriosis, mycobacteriosis (avian tuberculosis), avian influenza (bird flu), giardiasis, and cryptosporidiosis. In addition, they have sharp beaks. The brood nest can expand exponentially in the matter of hours. Destroy them before they destroy you.
 
Way cool!

Last week an egret landed in our yard. A huge egret, maybe 2 1/2 feet tall. It stood there for awhile and then snagged a hummingbird for lunch. It was amazing and sad and weird all at the same time. It finally swallowed the hummingbird and flew off.

We have bunnies and the baby bunnies are out right now. We name them. Sometimes the bunnies argue with the squirrels.

A redtail hawk landed in our backyard tree a few months ago. Every now and then we get to see a roadrunner, and many other smaller birds.

There is a coyote trail along our back fence and deer and mountain lions use the trail also. We have not had any rattlesnakes in our backyard, but our neighbors have. I will try and take a photo next time I see some interesting wildlife.

Last week a hummingbird made a nest over our door, right on top of some electrical conduit under the overhang. I wasn't too happy, but the little woman did some research and assured me the little ones would hatch and be gone fairly quickly. She looked forward to seeing the bird every day when we got home from work. Last Friday was the last time we saw the bird, so we're pretty sure something happened to it. Now the fiancee gets sad everytime we come home and see the nest still sitting there. Guess I'll pull it down this weekend before the eggs start to rot.

Actually, that family belongs to the owner of the red truck, who is violating the CC&R 2 or 3 pet rule.

Actually, no... Donald Bren recently had a charity dinner, that so happened to feature duck on the menu. The peasants at the dinner were served the older chewy mama duck, and those that had money and considerable donations were served the younger more delicate duck. Poor Serious Weapon, he thought he was posting about the cuteness of his neighborhood, but he was ultimately foiled by Bren and his true ulterior motives. That is what you get for your higher HOAs and mello roos, Bren shattering your idea of cuteness. So sad, but so true. This is the reason why I will never eat duck in Irvine.
 
We have four deer that play in our backyard. The other day it was raining out and my husband was getting out of the car. He said he stopped short because he thought he smelled a wet dog, so he stopped to look around for the dog. About ten feet away was a deer stairing at him - looking scared. My husband and the deer just stared at each other for about 30 seconds - both not knowing what to do. Then the deer starting wagging his tail (like a dog) and it actually smiled (I wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see if myself). Then the deer pranced away and started playing with the other three deer in our backyard and then they all ran off.

At least twice a week I look out my window and see them playing in the backyard. Although, I probably wouldn't like it so much if we owned the house since I have heard that they destroy your landscaping (they eat EVERYTHING!)
 
On my street in Woodbury we have a pair of wood ducks that have apparently moved in. I saw them on Friday and again this morning but now they had relocated across the street right under the mailboxes. We don't have a pond or even a fountain anywhere on our street.

I heard on a San Diego Wild Animal park tour that the wagging tail of a herbivore (ex. a deer) means "I see you predator, so don't waste your time trying to sneak up on me, I will be long gone by time you get here".

I'm not sure what the hell happened here but I guess spring is in the air. My neighbor has three newborn chicks. I'm wondering if I have to take the nest down now.

I didn't mind having ONE bird but I don't want my driveway to turn into an aviary.

Just my 2 cents, but I wouldn't touch the nest just yet. The mother will take care of the babies until they fly off on their own soon enough. Then when the babies have left the nest you could take it down. If you leave it up, another bird family will likely make use of it next year. I like this and have put up a bird house to make it easy for them but if you don't like it, just wait for the babies to get strong and leave on their own. I bet your little ones will enjoy hearing them chirp and seeing their little heads peak out.

Be glad that they aren't bothering you.

One time we had a nest of birds over our front door and the mother would suicide bomb us every time we entered or left the house. We felt like we were in the movie "The Birds."
