How rough is it going to get?

I'm just curious how rough and tumble the IHB community thinks it is going to get in Irvine, OC, Cali and the Nation.

It seems each day continues to bring more news like the shooting in the Irvine parking lot, the home invasion robberies, or the murder suicides.

Everything will get worse except for crime, which will decrease. Check statistics for crime rates during the depression and during recessions. Forget common knowledge and check the stats.

It still scares me. I have a funny feeling that our division is going to be closed down and 450+ people will out out of a job.... :(

I picked the 2nd choice but I think the pain will go further than Christmas 2009. Certainly unemployment will worsen and stock market will stay depressed during 2009. The recession will probably stick around till 1st/2nd QT 2010, and the economy will then stay pretty flat to anemic growth for 2010. Look for 2011 at the earliest for improving economy. Crime will certainly worsen with increased economic turmoil but hopefully not to the point of having to barricade your home or need for CCW permits. Of course you never know when the next LA Riots might be coming to your hood.

I had to vote with the Legalize crowd.

DEA is already going to leave the legal despensers alone now.

The crime thats a threat is the Mexican Mafia type.

Civil unrest is not in the cards for a long way.

As far as the vote.

We needed a DOW 5000 and then a decade to get back above 10,000.

We have a long hard road ahead.

I went with choice 3. Unemployment hitting the high teens. The crime part I do not agree with in regards to Irvine. In other areas: Santa Ana, Garden Grove, Stanton etc yes.

Maybe awgee, but it only takes one spark to set off a major fire when the tender is dry. Think 1992. How many people decided to join the bootleggers after the Crash of '29; does breaking unpopular laws in a time of crisis get counted as "crime"?

Can you say "Interet rate Swaps"? My, on my, aren't we just the brightest?

Eventually, we'll call this recession a depression.

I'm looking forward to the free doughnuts...

Prof, we will know when we are in really big trouble when the President walks up to the Podium and yells PINEAPPLE!!!

Best evidence yet that this economic downturn will last at least five years:

California's Inland Empire

Hard times hit, and we slowly disappear.

Big lawfirms are laying attorneys off in droves. If the layoffs at large lawfirms are any indication of what overall unemployment will look like, we're in for one hell of a ride.

Anon's find in the LAT is, frankly, a little disturbing and an unfriendly reminder of the last recession in that gardenspot Fresno, CA. Yuck.

Well, a lot of the big law firms are heavy into securities law, mergers, etc. A lot of big transactional clients went down with wall street. However, many litigation law firms are doing quite well and even expanding. People sue when they get desperate. My firm has expanded 20% in the last 6 months.

Ok, where do I send my resume?
