How does Irvine Company Come up with the names for the communities?

For example, Portola Springs is near Portola Parkway but there aren't any natural springs there. Laguna Altura is near Laguna Canyon Road, I looked up Altura and it's a municipality in Spain. Anyone know how they came up with or what are the references for: Stonegate, Woodburry, Cypress Village, or Quail Hill?

Great question. I also wonder how they come up with some of the street names? Do they have some random word generator that just spits out choices and they all vote on them?

Are there cypress tress in Cypress Village?

Part marketing, part historical/geographical.

There are quails in Irvine. Altura sounds like "elevation" (should have been Woktura). Stonegate maybe had to do with all the rocks they had to clear.

Woodbury was supposed to be Qwertery but "wood" was close enough.
