Hospital/Doctor

I have family over from the UK for 2 weeks and they are disillusioned with the health industry in England. So they would like to visit a doctor in the US. Can anyone recommend a gastroenterologist?

If Michael Moore says it, then it must be true Unfortunately the NHS is screwed up and it takes months to see a specialist (unless you have an emergency in which case the NHS is one of the best health systems available). Nearly everyone I know who is white collared has private medical insurance.

Stuff it......I just called my Wife, who seems to know all the Specialists in Southern OC (She spent a few years at Mission Hospital in MV and Saddleback in LH) and she recommends Dr. Stanley Rosen MD, 24411 Health Center Drive #600, Laguna Hills, CA 92653.

I don't blame them for wanting to see a Specialist over here, just make sure they get all the costs up front, the Bill can be heartbreaking.

Here's a real life comparison of UK vs US Healthcare.....My Mum came over to visit for six weeks on one of her many visits, she complained of a swollen/painful Leg, my Wife saw it and told Her to get in the Car, we're going to the ER...

Long story short, it turned out to be deep vein thrombosis (Blood Clot) they immediately admitted Her, she was in Hospital for 7 Days after that..she was on an IV of Cumadin (Blood thinners) amongst other stuff..I called our GP and he visited her every day, when she was released she was due to fly back 1 week later, our GP told her it was imperative that she go to her Doc in the UK so my Wife flew back with her and took her to her Doc in the UK the next Day, he made an appointment for her to go to the Hospital for Blood tests so He could put Her on Wolferin (UK version of Cumadin)...

Six weeks later...she still hadn't got an appointment at the Hospital in the UK..Her Clots came back and she almost died.

3 years ago, my Dad fell and broke His Hip, everything went fine with the replacement and he was due to leave the Hospital in 2 Days when he contracted MRSA and Died...when we went back to the UK I saw the Death Cert and asked WHY the cause of Death wasn't noted as MRSA, the Ladies' exact words were " Oh, we don't put that on Death Certificates because the local NHS says it's an embarresment to them"

My Wife visited my Dad on several occassions with me while he was in Hospital, she'd had a lot of experience with our US Hospitals and always said UK Hospitals are dirty, the Docs never wash their hands or wear/change gloves between Patients and a whole list of other things a US Hospital would be closed down for....she said they're a breeding ground for MRSA and she was right.
