Home security system company recommendations?

I present to you the most reliable alarm system.
YoQuiero model 2010.
Whether for home security or the Zombie Apocalypse, you can't beat an AA-12 with a 20-round drum magazine. I have two.
That is odd. Only 2 IPD cars no SWAT team? Your wife is still alive!
They are as effective as they can be, considering the time it takes for someone to respond to the loud bell ringing at your house and for the police to arrive. A small dog is as effective at alerting people to a stranger, and a large one is as effective in scaring amateurs away. However, alarms won't deter a pro who has targeted your house and they won't command a response that is fast enough to save you from physical harm. If someone wanted to grab the jewelery box, they could be in through the bedroom window and out through the front door in as long as it takes to run from one to the other. If someone wanted to abduct you, you'd be in the van and on the freeway before the police arrived. If you have a silent alarm, your neighbors won't even know anything is amiss.
But I think Bltserv and biscuit's arsenal also has something to say about this.
Most people aren't packing heat inside their house. If you're kicking it on the sofa and you don't know I'm coming, you aren't getting to your gun before I get to you. Even if the alarm goes off publicly, I'm halfway to you before you even recognize the threat, and you've been subdued and transported to the vehicle before your neighbors think to write down a license plate number. Your Ninja skills might slow one person down, but two? Three? What if I have a taser, chloroform, and duct tape?
On the other hand, a good dog will be barking at the stranger on the sidewalk and going nuts over anyone actually entering either yard. A dog will actively defend it's territory and give it's owner enough time to react, to arm themselves, and to prepare for the attack. They also play catch and lick your face because they love you. Try getting that from ADT.
What if my dog is so friendly he'll play catch and lick the face of anyone... even serial killers? Sure, it will love me... but I don't have to pick up doodoo from my ADT alarm system.
Now of course I'm being hyperbolic (especially in reference to my non-existent ninja skills) but nothing is infallible. And like Graph says... I live in Irvine... the likelihood of a home invasion in my house (considering I don't really have anything of value other than my kids) is probably the same as me getting offed by an icicle gun (well... as long as I don't piss BK off).
And shrimp paste is probably a better deterrent than an alarm lawn sign or a Rottweiler.
I agree my examples were extreme. But they illustrate what an alarm can and can't do for you. They will let you know if someone robs you while you are on vacation, they will annoy you when you mis-key your code, and they will give you a false sense of security that allows you to ignore the glass windows, the wooden door jams, the bump-key operable locks, or the myriad other ways to enter a home illegally. A good mutt from the pound requires less costly maintenance than a security system and forces you to exercise your fat ass, too, meaning you can stop paying those gym fees.
Well that's exactly why I'm always prepared.

Try Bay Alarm....one time my wife triggered the alarm when I was out of town. She disabled it then went to shower - she forgot she needs to standby the phone for their call back to confirm passwords. Two Irvine police cars showed up within mins....

Actually... I'm not sure if a dog costs less in maintenance.
I've had one for over a decade and if you combine food, care, boarding (when you go on vacation), shots, medical care etc etc... it gets up there. Burglar alarms don't have ailments that require expensive surgery and if it costs too much to fix... you can just replace it... not so much with your dog.
If you want to save on the monthly, go with a passive system. It still has that annoying alarm for the less professional hitters (you know the ones that don't pack tasers, chloroform and Chuck Norris skills) and at minimum it can tell you when a door opens and closes (I actually liked that about our previous alarm system).
