Heinous! And call me a bear, which I'm not, but who is in the world is going to pay almost $800K for a townhome out there? There's some pretty decent stuff you can get for that kind of coin.
 
I thought we had a housing downturn because things were overpriced. Looking at these pictures, I think it's just because they did this with the models...I feel like my eyes were just dipped in acid...
 
A 3,400 sq ft condo? I don't understand owning something that large, yet it still has a common wall (unless we are talking Manhattan or something).
 
We sold a house the same size, which is great for a family of five and leaves a bedroom for aging parents. We wanted a home this size, but we didn't want a huge yard because of the maintenance. New tract homes are so close together that frankly I would rather share a wall and NOT see my neighbor rather than look out my window and see my neighbor five feet away. I also wanted a community pool that I didn't have to personally clean and maintain. We had a pool before and the cost to filter it daily, clean it ect. was very high. We have owned a condo before and I really prefered the lower maintenance. We travel alot because I have a travel agency and we are gone alot. Again, condos are not for everyone, but we actually hated our huge yard, pool ect. because of the upkeep. The gardener and pool costs were almost equal to the HOA dues (and they cover things like the roof and exterior paint, which again on a home you pay for). After having remodeled three aging homes I really didn"t want to go in and fix another home>

That's interesting. I am currently in an attached townhome now and have been pondering of getting a SFR with a yard. One of the concerns I have is the maintenance of the yard. And will I actually use the yard? After reading your post, I am re-thinking again. :-)

For those whom have never lived in the newer attached condos. Here's my experience for the last 3 years. My neigbhor(s) to the right, I never hear a noise out of his unit. The neighbor(s) to my left have a young child and once a month you'll hear him running. But the noise is muffled. As far as noises such as washer/dryer, garbage disposal, tv, radio, talking, etc. There's absolutely none.

I have mentioned this in an older post. The newer attached condos/townhomes; although, the walls are 'shared'. It's actually 2 walls with an inch or so gap in between.
 
I have to agree with you as I am now renting an attached condo where I have neighbors below me and neighbors attached on one side. I never hear any significant noise. I actually hear less than I did in my own two story house wher my kids would be so loud upstairs it sounded like the ceiling was coming down. I enjoy the "condo" lifestyle. I never have to clean the heated pool, jacuzzi or barbeques, I can use the clubhouse for parties and it would be hard to rob the place because there are so many people in such a small area that we see everyone coming and going. It might not be everyone's cup of tea, but we enjoy it. (well except for the frequent golf balls hitting the roof on the weekends!) I think ultimately you have to decide what you will do in your home or if you will use the yard. We felt like enjoying the beach this weekend so we splurged and spent one night at the Monatge Resort in Laguna Beach for Easter. When we had a pool in our own backyard we would have felt guilty doing this. Renting a condo it's easy to afford the occasional getaway with our kids and enjoy it. We are definately not rich, but better off financially than when we owned our house.
 
I had a large yard with a flagstone patio in my last home. We never ventured off the patio - the rest was just a waste of water of money to maintain. I would rather have a quality patio then a large yard - it is just a headache.
