I got some stupid newspaper touting the Todd Gallinger (sp?) for councilmember, and besides trashing the other team (forgot who they are Pat Rodger I think and 2 others), he does mention about plans to build 4,400 bed jail next to the Great Park.

Did anybody hear anything about it? Not that I'd want to buy anything in Great Park, but it would definitely affect my buying choices elsewhere in the adjacent parts of Irvine...

You are referring to the Musick Jail. This article was in the OC Register the other day:

Theo Lacey doesn't seem to hurt Floral Park's neighborhood or resale values.

My first impression of that newspaper was that it was obviously bias.

But the info may be true.



I wouldn't support any council member that was being paid to lobby for companies like that Christina Shea the newpaper was bashing on. They were bashing teamirvine.org (Shea, Choi & Rodgers)

When you get out of prision, they give you a really cheap suit, a hundred bucks, take you to the train station, and stick your ass on the next thing smokin' back to whereever you are from. The Prision has a responsiblity to the locals to not dump the inmates in thier back yard. I know that Corcoran, Avenal, and Coalinga busses it's discharged inmates to Hanford (30-50 miles away) to stick them on Amtrak.



You are suggesting that dirtbag walked from Chino to Chino Hills and killed those people?

Correct, I am saying he walked from the prison westward to English Rd. in Chino Hills after escaping through a hole in the fence of the prison yard. <a href="http://lang.dailybulletin.com/projects/cooperwatch/case_overview/">Here</a> are the details of his escape. But I see what you are saying - you are talking about discharged inmates and I thought the concern in the thread was over living near inmates who could escape so I guess we are on two different subjects.
 
c'mon, No Vaseline, I know you would eat nonorganic produce :) but living next to a functioning jail? Besides that being depressing, if they only give those inmates a hundred bucks, wouldn't they want to break into the nearby houses, cars to steal something? You have too much faith in humanity, I'd personally own a gun collection if I lived in the adjacent neighborhoods just in case that happens...

For six years I lived near the corner of Pipeline and Chino Hills Parkway. Previous to that I lived 8 years in close proximity to Corcoran State Prision (the subject of the most recent MSNBC "Locked Up"). I do own a small collection of guns. They are safely locked up in my parent's gunsafe near Fresno where I know they are safe and won't be turned against me in my own home.



In my experence, when folks get out of prison (released or jailbreak) the last thing they want to do is hang out around the prision. Thier primary objective is to put as much space between themselves and that government sanctioned hole they've called home ASAP.



I ain't eatin' no organic produce. No freerange chickens either. Them's fightin' words.

My uncle used to be the DA in a small NorCal county?
 
Ok, considering the non-zero probability of the society sliding into the abyss as a result of the financial system collapse followed by the commercial collapse (NOT the main case scenario, but possible), the risk case is a riot that results in a massive jail break. I can only imagine that escapees' first priority would be to scavenge neighboring communities for resources (cash, vehicles, guns, food).



Like I said a small probability of a very serious outcome is more important to me than a large probability of a relatively benign outcome.
 
And given a choice, I wouldn't elect to live near a prision/jail either. Having done so twice, I'm just saying it's no big deal.



Anyone who eats free range - no antibiotics - organic - chicken, however, is trying to perpetuate bird flu and kill everyone. For real. They ought to outlaw the stuff.
 
no_vas, did you hear the <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bd4qCVvRo9g&feature=related">loud test-sirens</a> a lot living so close to CIM? (Every first Fri of the month at noon.) I lived way over by Euclid at the 60 and could still hear it. Nothing says "Welcome Home" like prison sirens.
 
Isn't it more likely that you will have Paris Hilton, Richie Sambora, Heather Locklear, Nichole Richie, Shia LaBoeuf escaping from the local jail than hardened criminals who are going to break into your home?

No, because I was always working. If I was at home I'm sure I could.

When I lived in Corcoran, Robert Downey Jr. was there for a drug diversion program. Famous people kept coming to visit him (Whoppi Goldberg and Mel Gibson, for two) and when they did, the guard would call the local newspaper editor/photographer who would go round up the Mayor or the Chief of Police or city manager or dog catcher or ................ and ambush them when they drove out for PR pictures. I subscribed to the weekly paper simply so I could get the weekly TMZ style photos with my neighbors and the always cooperative visiting celebs on the front page.
