Hardwood Floor Patterns

I am curious to know why most of the hardwood flooring options are always/almost always glossy. What about natural finish/color like in Europe? Herringbone pattern?

In Europe do you mean houses built in the last 100 years or before? Because most of the houses I've been to in europe aren't necessarily as glossy as the wood floors here but they do have a finish on them, Id assume either linseed oil or beeswax. But who knows. I am sure there is more than one kind of finish/varnish/sealer.

Side note for beeswax... it is the best cleaner for the aluminum sliding doors/windows on the bottom rail. Will simultaneously stick to/remove all the funkiness that collects there, and lubricate the rail to keep it from seizing. Just a tip from grandma Deuce.

Good luck,
