I find myself complaining too much like in the Pet Peeves thread which was only designed for Fridays but I've used every other day of the week as well.

So here is a place for happy things.

I got a new slow cooker and it glows like it's over an "open fire". I can't stop staring at it because I love it. Seriously, how cute is that. It is #6 for me. It's an early birthday present. (Don't worry, I did ask for an appliance for my birthday. I'm not offended that I was given one. But don't ever buy your wife a vacuum cleaner or anything like that for her birthday unless she specifically asks for one. ) This picture is too big but I don't care. I'm too lazy to resize it.

That is an awesome slow cooker... I like the electronics on the front.

You know what would be more awesome? If it had WiFi, then you can monitor it remotely from your phone wherever you are. :)
 
BTW: If that's your kitchen -- great design... shaker style cabinets in a light color, subway tile backsplash and a great looking light countertop... I'm jealous.
 
Oh yeah. We're going to hit 80. I'm happy because I could use a little defrosting after the last few "brutally cold" weeks.  :D Thank you, God.

Wow, thank you, Iho!!! Yes, it is indeed Casa de SoCal.  :) I took a leap on these styles and colors over 2 years ago before they were popular... back before the home design blogs were crushing on "greige", subway tile, etc. I was a little nervous about it then but happy about it now.

Thanks! It's the only one I've ever been able to find that has a "delay start". It might be the only one in production. It has a programmable timer with automatic shut-off so it makes being away from home easy. Don't have to worry about burning the food. There is also a model made by Hamilton Beach that cooks by temperature probe and does the monitoring for you. Most digital models count-down and automatically switch to warm as well.

Doesn't look nearly as high end as yours... but it works for when i make chili or jambalaya because stuff doesn't settle on the bottom and burn to a crisp, tainting the entire batch.

My wife likes to watch DVDs in the kitchen while she cooks.  She has this portable DVD player her parents bought her a few years ago.  It flips open like a laptop and I think it's a 9" screen.  We don't have that many DVDs. 

For Christmas I bought her a 23" LED TV, a flip-down mount and a wi-fi blu-ray player.  The mount will allow the TV to be flipped up out of the way under the cabinet most of the time, and down when she wants to watch something.  The TV picture is much better and so are the speakers.  The blu-ray will increase her selection of DVDs and, most importantly, the wi-fi will allow her to stream videos from her amazon prime account. 

I thought I did OK, but now I'm not so sure.  You think I'm going to regret this?  I.e., "here's a nice improvement to your life that you'll be able to enjoy every single time you're in the kitchen!"

Daedalus, you're safe! Improving upon an existing item that the person previously requested or enjoys is a good idea. The first sentence you wrote is a nice indicator -- it's what she "enjoys" doing. If that's what she chooses to do with her time, you're good -- for example, if baking is a hobby and not a burden to her. Now, if she resents cooking and only uses the current DVD player to make her time in the kitchen more bearable, then maybe you could present the new one to her un-mounted and let her decide which room she puts it in. You could offer a few ideas with only one of them being the kitchen cabinet. Besides, a TV is a more leisurely "appliance", if it can even be called one. She could be relaxing while she is watching. It's not as if you're gifting her the latest & greatest iron to better press your work shirts with. It is the labor intensive appliances and items used to serve other people which should be given more cautiously.  :) I hope this helps.
 
Things that made me happy today:
1. The sun :) Imagine the morning sun hitting your face while you browse through the pictures of extreme cold your friends posted on Facebook.
2. Messy-messy desk.  RFPs to RFIs.. it's all on there, and there is no way I can control the clutter unless I get help. Happy problem.
3. Yup, slow cooker, and rice cooker. In-laws are visiting, and I can throw rice in rice cooker-set the timer, curry in slow cooker and be sure that there will be lunch.
4. Jillian Micheals is on Amazon Prime, instant :) This morning went back to look at that little goal I set a million years ago to see my six pack again.. and thought I will buy the instant video to make sure I can workout wherever I want to, whenever I wanted to.
5.  Not too happy to take those little decorations off, but happy to see neighbor's lights gone! They had them on all night sometimes..

Hehe.  :) I've really been having a lot of fun with this one lately on Facebook, as you know. I'll confess, I like to rub it in just a little bit, and sometimes I like to rub it in good. (No, Qwerty, no...)

Yo, Iho, how did you find this?? Even I hadn't heard of it yet... and I frequent all the crocking sites as a closet crocker.

The CES (Consumer Electronics Show) is this week in Vegas so all the new tech usually gets revealed here.

Eventually, the anything electronic will be connected, then the machines will turn on us and it will be Judgement Day (the Terminator one).
