They are razing the hangar for the "Tustin Legacy Project" which will include even more homes.

<p>I wish I were there for some of the meetings because the Register's articles have been painting a picture that the city council had always wanted to tear it down. It's not my thing but I know many people who wanted the motocross track there. I liked the Lab's idea of artisan shops and a culinary arts school because that is what the Ferry Building is like in San Francisco and it is very successful.</p>

<p>There won't be more homes built because the City has already put a restriction on the number of units in Tustin Legacy. I also think that area would be more contaminated so less likely for homes to be built there.</p>
 
Here's one person who isn't shedding any tears about the lack of future motocross. Go ahead, call me an elitist--- but I certainly don't want that in my backyard. Plenty of space for that in the red states and the 909. What I would like is if the hangar became some really cool mixed use residential/work lofts. That thinking is, however, a little too big for sleepy ol' Tustin.
 
I think motocross inside a hangar is a wonderful idea. The biggest threat to that form of recreation is the awful racket it makes. Stick it under a roof, ventilate the CO out with big fans, problem solved.
 
I heard these hangers had real structural problems as they were built prior to when our more stringent earthquake codes were in place. I wouldn't want to be in there when it comes crashing down...





and personally, I think they are ugly.

Isn't that the farther one from the District?



I thought the one closest to the District was still going to be razed?



(although how they will contain all that debris so close to the shopping center is beyond me)

Who actuually owns the land and the structures at Tustin and El Toro? Were they transferred to the local gov'ts?



Would the motocross enthusiasts or artisans pay enough for the land, compared to revenue from building more homes / Albertsons / Daphne's / AMC / TJMaxx "middle class happiness combos"?

You beat me to this comment. Motocross belongs in the desert, where all the tat'd-up peeps can do their thing not disturbing anyone else.

Useless fact: there are more off road motorcycles (per capita and per household) in the OC than anywhere else on the planet, and there's no place to ride. Back home there's tons of places to ride, but nobody does because that is one expensive ass hobby and nobody has any money.

Off-road bikes are like tattoos - they make insecure boys feel more manly.
