Guard-gated family-friendly communities in Irvine?

personally i've always felt that the UNmanned gates are more secure. i guess hi-tech thieves can hijack transponder signals but for the most part people wont get it unless they have a transponder or call a resident directly.
 
thanks very much for all the feedback about gates and security (or lack thereof). It's quite helpful.

Not much feedback about which gated communities are family-friendly. Can anyone comment on that? We'd love to live in a community with lots of kids around.

An Eva, is the guy you are talking about named Ari ? The branch you are thinking of is called the Mossad.

The Tustin Ranch Estates were not built with manned gates, but they added a guard house (right next to Pioneer Middle School) and manned the gates two years ago. Just FYI.
 
Gated or not. Most Irvine neighborhoods are designed within a grid. The communities are surrounded by major streets but once you drive into one. Good luck on finding your ways out.

Oh, family friendly neighbors? Forget about it. Most keep to themselves. Make sure if you have dogs, to muzzle them.
 
I have family in Newport Coast (Pelican Crest I believe) with a manned gate and I've never been able to get through easily. The guards always call and check before letting me in. Unless we are in the car with the community sticker on it we always have to be called in. It's not Irvine but it seems like there are alot of people with strict security needs in Newport Coast so their gates may be more strictly manned than elsewhere.
 
Another area in Tustin Ranch with manned gates is to the West of Tustin Ranch Road with entrances at Rawlings and Township. There are 6 different tracts in there.

The Summit SFRs & Concordia in Turtle Rock and the Summit in Turtle Ridge have manned gates, as well.

I've seen some unmanned gates in North Pointe neighborhoods and I think Shady Canyon with a gate plus parking garage type automatic arm. This prevents people from simply tailgating their way in. Still not full proof from as BK points out. If someone is determined to get in, then they can simply walk in or socially engineer their way past even manned gates with their car. There is I suppose the psychological fear factor of manned for vs unmanned gates but it only represents one layer of protection.
 
Last weekend we wanted to go from UCI to the Quail Hill center and didn't feel like driving all the way raround so we decided to cut through Shady Canyon. We told the guard we were looking at open houses and he handed us a library's worth of expensive flyers and maps.

Oh gosh, it's been 8 or so years, and I don't remember. I was introduced to him in his professional capacity by a friend who is FBI. I recall that he had a training studio on 17th, but that's as good as my memory gets right now.
 
Krav Magra is ridiculously challenging. Saw it on Fight Quest on Discovery Channel, and the instructor (a female) was beating the living daylight out of the American guy and 4 of her other students. Skek, if you are into that kind of stuff, you should check out the new Gracie Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Studio on Sand Canyon and the 5.
 
edm - I have lived here for almost a year now with young children - the only comments I have heard are that some of the older neighborhoods have fewer kids than the newer neighborhoods simply because of age of owners. That being said I do get the sense that all the neighborhoods in Irvine are kid friendly and all have kids. I don't know of any neighborhoods that don't have nice parks with playgrounds and also community swimming pools - the playgrounds here at the parks are incredible!

Not sure where you are moving from and how Irvine will compare - but for me the neighborhoods here (i.e., Turtle Rock, Woodbridge, etc) feel more like little towns than neighborhoods. We have not bought a house yet but I would venture that if you are looking for your next door type neighbors to have kids the age of your kids it is going to matter more which street you buy on than which neighborhood.

Those who have lived here longer than me may know info I am unaware of but these are my perceptions at this point!!!

... Of course, even greater is the number of Israelis living here who "claim" to be ex-Mossad. That's a pickup line that even tenmagnet would have to give props to.
