Hi,

I often get a haircut at Greatcuts at Harvard and Main and had been paying $21 plus tip.  I went in a week or so ago and heard they rolled their prices back to $18 because of the slow economy.  I don't know how long that reduction will last.

Thanks!

That's good news but save your $18. Buy a Flowbee and never step foot in the salon again.  :P I just broke down and got one because there are three men in my house. Now I do all their hair. It's working out great. I love saving all this money.

They still sell Flowbees? Did you have to order it online?

Despite the poking by Wayne's World, I actually want one to cut my kid's hair. Having the vacuum suck the stray hair away is a bonus.

I get my haircuts at a $7 place in Lake Forest, if they mess up, it's only $7 and it will grow back in a week anyways.

Yep - you're in luck! They certainly are still sold after 20 or so years of being on the market. I don't know if any stores carry it but I bought mine on their site. They are also sold on Amazon but I wanted to order directly from them in case I had any issues and needed customer service help from them.

Same as you, Iho, I wanted to do the two boys' hair. I've tried clippers but the mess was just ridiculous, especially as they squirm and move around. The clippers don't work for the top, though, since there is no guard long enough and you have to do scissors which can get sort of complicated with blending the cut. Plus, with school schedules and just busy stuff day to day, it's hard not always being able to get into the salon when they are due for a cut or worse, having to sit and wait for a chair. They end up looking shaggy in the mean time.

I just touched up the little one's hair today. It is a noisy device but he's getting used to it. I absolutely can not tell the difference between this and a salon cut. I clean up the edges on the back, ears, and "side burns" with clippers or scissors. It looks great. Money well-spent so far. Mr. SoCal wanted them to be the test-subjects first and they turned out well so he lets me do his.  :D

Get it - you won't regret it. If you get good enough, you could do your own too or have Mrs. Iho do it if you need a little help just at the back.

(I didn't get their mini-vac... just the standard cutting thingamajig with all the accessories it comes with. I just plug it into my upright vacuum. No mess! Nice.)
