So I really never realized how extensive Google Street View was here in OC, especially in the Irvine area.

Anyone find this cool? Or creepy?

pssh, people have been doing this type of stuff for years... they've had maps like this for almost 20 years now. The only thing that's changed is that the web is sufficiently fast enough to handle even the lowest resolution COMMERCIAL crap....

oh well.

It's very cool. Great house hunting tool for neighborhoods you haven't been to so you can rule it out if it looks too crowded or whatever. Obviously, they don't cover gated neighborhoods but there are some pretty nice houses on there you can check out.

they have something new now where you can click on a camera view and it takes you down to street surface level and you can actually roll around just as if you were walking there. really cool stuff. i can actually see people's face in their car........ i am not sure if they done it to the smaller street but it is out and about on the major intersection now.

I don't find this streetview too cool, seeing as how if I zoom in I can read the license plate on the back of my car parked out front. At least my car was clean for its brush with fame.

You're doing better than this guy at 52 Silver Crescent ... Fat Flipper

See, thats kind of the creepy part for me, being able to see things like the license plate... eeeeeeek

Speaking of creepy, perhaps that's how the city council got their information in order to send that weird birthday card: First, get some city interns to troll the entire city via streetview and write down all the license plates. Then, walk them over the IPD and pull the DMV record. From there, cross reference to the DL with the name and birthday --- and presto, I've got my invite to go do something REALLY fun on my birthday --- like ride the big orange balloon! That Sukhee Kang knows how to party!

LOL consideragain --- If they've got a hall of fame up at google of best images they have caught on streetview, that one at 52 Silver Crescent has got to be up there near the top. Bare feet and all! I'll give them credit, if they are trying to give you a flavor of the area, this is definitely a classic Turtle Rock street scene...

[quote author="skek" date=1207913234]Our car is in our driveway and you can read the license plate. Fortunately, no people shots. And what a surprise, the neighbor kid has his little delinquent buddies over.

Someone is going to nailed for cheating on their spouse with this thing (not that they wouldn't deserve it...).

skek, I was reading a fascinating story about a Girl who rides a Motorbike in Chernobyl where they had that horrible Nucear accident, anyway, as long as she stayed on Asphalt she wouldn't be affected by radiation, she couldn't stand on grass etc because she would get sick, she rode her bike in Chernobyl because she loved having the road to herself...

Anyway, the point of this is that I looked up Chernobyl on Google earth, there's nothing showing in that area it's all been fuzzed out, now that's wierd to me where you can "blank" a large part of the Earth out.

now that?s wierd to me where you can ?blank? a large part of the Earth out.
