Yep, I purchased alot of old curio and relic pistols for dirt cheap a while back (old russian pistols that aren't worth very much as scrap). I take them in and turn them in for a few extra $$. So far my profit margin is between 300-500%. It saddens me when you see an old lady with her husbands VERY nice hunting rifle or even and old fashion black power HISTORIC rifle.... Saw some civil war stuff that was worth ALOT more than the measily 100-200.

Don't feel too sad. My widowed neighbor was cleaning out her garage and found a Soviet PPSh smg that her husband apparently brought back from Germany in the 50s. I told her to turn it in to the Sheriff since she did not have the proper stamps or license. A few weeks later, I was at a gun store and the owner was proudly displaying that very same PPSh. I asked him where he got it and he said he bought it from the LA County Sheriff. Some cops will sell rather than melt the good stuff.
 
Yep, the Nagant pistols are pretty beat. i would even put a starter cap in them for fear of hurting myself. I purchased them between 20-40 each in a bulk order. I can't do too many though.

p.s. i'd like to see a Sturmgewehr... the grandfather of the modern assult rifle.... that would probably be a prettypricey little toy.

All guns taken in are melted down, most made into manhole covers. I've never heard of them being sold, even to a collector. Given to a museum ? Perhaps....but still not likely.

You should call and report the matter. Sounds fishy.
 
After the Corona watch, nothing surprises me as the corruption was out of control. I really hope they lock him away for a very long time as he is such a dirty piece of trash.I really have a very low respect for the sheriff department still and hope the new sheriff will do the right thing.
 
Corona was the OC Sheriff.....this poster was commenting on the LA County Sheriff. I highly doubt he would allow his dept to sell a weapon that was turned in.....Baca, not Corona. If it was sold, I'm saying that something doesn't seem right...
 
I feel the same way about the "guns for gift cards" I do about "crush old cars to reduce smog".

It's a good idea, but some people get rid of some really useful and valuable (and sometimes unreplacable) stuff in the process.

This was back in the Sherman Block days at City of Industry Sheriff. I believe it was legal then for the Sheriff to sell a weapon a citizen without the right permit turned in to another citizen with the right permit. Remember, at this time, the largest arms bazzar in the county (the Great Western Show) where many illegal transactions allegedly were conducted, was held on LA County property (Fairplex in Pomona) so LA County/Sheriff didn't seem that concerned about melting down guns at that time. I'm sure LA County's attitude/ordinances on guns has changed since then.

Ah, that makes more sense. Things have indeed tightened up in the last 10 years.
