Gardener Recommendations

Anyone have any good gardener recommendations?  My landscaping is pretty simple, but I still need a gardener to come every other week.  I'm also looking for someone who can fix some of the sprinklers and lights.

I find it best to ask my neighbors who they use.

1. They will give you a pretty honest assessment, if they are happy with them, they are still using them.

2. You can see what kind of job they are doing prior to hiring them.

3. The gardener is already in your area so that's convenient for both of you.

We are trying to figure out a way to let our gardener go. We've been using him for years but he's more expensive than our neighbor and more importantly, they do a better job than he does and they come every week instead of twice a month.

+1 for asking your neighbors.
Will also add that the local "area specialist" realtor should have resources for you, as well.

Which neighborhorhood/village are you needing assistance in? If I can't give you a contact, I likely know someone that can. Let me know if you still want help.

just stop paying his invoices and he will stop coming shortly thereafter.

Not our guy. One time we forgot to pay for 4 months... then his wife politely called us to remind us we owe them for 4 months. They are so nice it's hard to "move on".

Why don't you just tell them that their work isn't as great as your neighbor's gardner and they also charge less.  In this state of economy, I'm sure he's going to lower his price and up his quality  :)

So...anybody out there with good recommendations for a reliable gardener/landscaper at all? Would really be useful for my small yard with overgrown plants and a broken sprinkler timer. Possible maintenance work after too. Anyone?  :)

Re starting the activity on this old thread. I'm looking for gardner help. Our Pavers & watering system etc are already in place.
Would like to have a gardner who knows the plants and has some good suggestions/ideas. so not really looking for landscape
company but gardner.

I am looking for a gardener who can also trim 4x Italian Cypress in Woodbury.

I had the following work done by Joseph's Landscape and gardening for $400, not sure if that if that is a fair rate or what but they did a great job. I don't have contact info handy but can get it if you are interested.

1) Trimmed two trees
2) Removed tree stump
3) Removed all weeds
4) Put down wood chips
5) Swept up patio

I do not use them on a regular basis since I don't think there is enough work for them to come regularly, however my yard is looking pretty ragged so prolly gonna ask them for a touchup.
