Furniture for sale listings on Craigslist are out of control

When we sold our house in Jan. 2006 in Tustin Ranch, I used Craigslist to get rid of a bunch of our furniture. Well, I finally decided to get rid of the bedroom set. I mean, what do I need with two huge dressers and a king size bed that remind me of my ex-husband? So I bought a new set (my DREAM bedroom set, a farmhouse-style canopy bed) and today at 1pm I posted pics and an ad selling my old set to go to the highest offer. I have gotten one email, only one, and since I posted about 6 hours ago, at least 400 more ads have been posted on top of mine!!! FOUR HUNDRED!

This is nothing like my furniture selling experience two and half years ago. This is totally warped. Housing bubble impact in action!

It is extremely bad feng shui for the buyers who buys the bed from a bad marriage. Very few Asians buy second hand Master BR furniture. I can bet on the buyer would not be Asian. keep us posted. Hope your buyer is not reading this.

There is a lot of furniture on Craigs ISM. In preparation for the move to the rental, I acquired a bunch of furniture via Craigs over the last few weeks... Wanted to stay cheap so we can use and abuse the year or two we are renting. Picked up a dresser for $60. Very nice, nearly near microfiber couch and loveseat for $450 total, and a matching desk/hutch/lateral file in Walnut colored hardwood for $300.

Take heart, a number of items I tried to obtain had been sold already after only a few days. You will unfortunately need to repost if you want to move them though as people only go back a few days to surf the adds.

haha

But on a serious note, no wonder why home furnishing stores like Wickes have gotten kicked in the teeth. I just checked out craigslist and there are some great deals on there. I can furnish my living room for like 1/3 the price of retail.

I prefer selling on CL compared to ebay, there are no fees plus the Buyer will come to <em>you</em> !!

We got my Wife a new Bike last week and I knew she'd never ride the old one again so I put it on CL at 11pm Thursday night, I got tons of replies and the first couple that saw it the following evening bought it...they were the sweetest young couple (UCI Students) they didn't bring any money so they begged me not to sell it while they went to the Bank, of course, I promised it would still be there when they got back, the following Day I received another ton of e-mails so I deleted the Ad...

No, I didn't sell it cheap to get rid of it, it was a good, well known brand in a rare size and of course it was like new...

They sent me a follow-up e-mail later thanking me for selling it to them, they were both really happy and so was I, it made room for my new Bike ;-)

The annoying side of Craigslist is that you advertise something, someone turns up to collect and tries to bargain even after you state the price is firm both in the Ad and in a reply to their e-mail

A very nice Nigerian Gentleman offered me $14,000 for the Bike by the way, he sent me the longest e-mail and I felt bad when he got around to telling me that His Sister was dying and really <em>needed</em> that Bike in the hope that riding it would somehow prolong her life by a few years....

But seriously....

By the way, if anyone ever recieves an e-mail offering extortionate offers for anything you're selling or renting, forward them to the FBI.

in general i've always been taught by my family to avoid products that have had negative occurrences associated with it. whether it's feng shui, chi, heeby-jeebies, ghosts, good vibrations, or whatever you want to call it. buying something you know was the result of a failed marriage or because the previous owner went to prison just doesn't sit well. kind of like buying a haunted house.

do you know that one restaurant in town that always seems to fail? it was a diner at first, then mexican, then chinese, then indian, etc. no matter what the business there fails. there's probably practical explanation like poor location... or maybe it's just bad luck.

why would anyone want to buy a use bed? that is just nasty and weird. a bed?????????????? come one. spend a few dollars already. asian or any other race..... sleeping on a use bed just sucks.

i thought there would be a lot more high end appliances on CL and can't find any.

i was looking for subzeros, monograms, wolf...etc...

didn't people use their helocs to buy nice appliances?

Seriously! I check every so often looking to see if anyone is trying to dump an Eames chair and ottoman. So far I've only seen mediocre imitations.

QH, you'll like this tattoo then....

I got rid of my original rosewood 1958 Herman Miller Eames, 4-1945 Corbusiers chairs by Knoll, Eileen Gray tables, and a Corbu 3 seater for less than $4500 7 years ago when Modern was not in high demand. I am kicking myself right now.

I am loving that tattoo Troop!

BK,

That is very unfortunate. The original rosewood was a beautiful thing. I can't imagine why you would have gotten rid of it!

Spouse is into Pottery Barn and Restoration. Just like ISM she wanted to get rid of everything from her last marriage. I hope the 400 listings per minutes on CL were not divorce related.

OOoo, oooo...me ! <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eames_Lounge_Chair">It's an Eames thing, you wouldn't understand.</a>

<em>"The chair has become iconic with Modern style design although when it was first made Ray Eames remarked in a letter to Charles that the chair looked "comfortable and un-designy" (sic). Charles's vision was for a chair with "the warm, receptive look of a well-used first baseman's mitt".</em>

I had a feeling the sale wasn't purely your choice. My condolences.
