Furnishing a new home

Does anybody have any good furniture store recommendations in Orange or LA County? My wife and I are moving into a new RENTAL and would like to purchase some new stuff, but don't know where to start looking for good stuff at the best prices. Recommendations would be appreciated!

Not sure about you, but for recent homebuyers I recommend:

My favorite is Room and Board across from South Coast Plaza.

They have very diverse styles and are great with custom pieces.

I've done many, many purchases with them - most of them custom.

I like the penguin touch. . . very classy

Plummers off the 55 is good. . . I have heard rumors that Costco is going to convert its old Tustin location to a furniture only store. They have good furniture as well.

Easylife Furniture in the Tustin Marketplace. I've purchased bedroom furniture, rugs, and dining room stuff there. Great value.

The waxy coating makes them somewhat splash-resistant. They'll survive better after the unlawful detainer suit and eviction by the sheriff.

Don't take my word for it... Just ask this guy:

Get a part-time job at Restoration Hardware or Pottery Barn and you'll get 40% off everything (20% off stuff on sale, however).

You can be part-time and work as little as 10hours per week (according to one of the Restoration Hardware employees).

I remember reading somewhere that someone bought a Roche Bobois sofa through her interior designer and got 30%+ off. Roche Bobois sofa start at 10k+ I think... So, if you can find an interior designer or someone in the furniture business you can get some heavy discounts. A friend of mine works for an interior design firm and got me a great deal on Herman Miller's Aeron chair. Near 50% off but still damn expensive.

I'm about to buy stuff from Room and Board in the next week or two. Been to their store and their quality is very good.

I also recall someone on this forum mentioned Home Consignment Center offering good deals on furniture.

If you're looking for something temporary, visit your local goodwill stores to pick up used wooden furniture cheap, then donate them when you move. They're easy to fix with screws & wood glue, and if you're bored, you can sand them down and repaint.

If you don't mind used stuff, peruse CraigsList. Some people have no idea what used furniture should sell for - kinda like those people who don't GET that housing prices are going down :) - but there are lots of bargains out there. Good luck (and have fun!)

On CraigsList, it definitely pays to check both the Furniture for Sale listings and the FREE entries. If I had a pick-up truck or van, I think I could furnish an entire house in 30 days or less with decent stuff that people are giving away.

Home Consignment Center off Jamboree. Beautiful furniture, art, and jewelry at fantastic prices. I have been both a customer (furnished my son's bedroom except for the bed) and a client (just sold my wedding/engagement ring there a few weeks ago.)

So, irvinesinglemom... curious, did they give a good price for the ring? I'm in the market to sell one as well...

GITOC

We got it about 10 years ago, paid about 8k at the time. They sold it for something like $4800, and took a big fat chunk of commission. I ended up with $2800. Was quite worth it to me, not to have to hassle to try to sell it on my own on Craigslist or something...I highly recommend the jewelers at the HSC; this was a good experience for me.

Yes, that's the part that gets me... it's like a 60/40 split or something! Pricey to sell stuff consignment... and if it's furniture, you have to pay someone to get it to the store, and arrange pick up if it doesn't sell.
