Free Agent LBJ

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
riley will give wade his money, for loyalty reasons.  just like the lakers think "taking care of their own" helps them recruit free agents, riley has the same mentality so they end up paying for past performance.  the right thing to do is just not sign wade or sign him at something around 10M/year, but if he did that after wade opted out of 2 years 42M remaining, he would be killed in the media, be called a hypocrite, etc.

So Melo back to NY for a max deal even though he said he would take less so that NY could make some acquisitions.

Stay in NY Carselfish.

i know what he said but do you guys really think it makes sense for the players to take less money? how bout the owners get rid of the salary cap? would you take less money? its always really easy to tell others what to do with their money. anything they say about talking less money is just because of pressure from the media.

So LBJ took $42m for 2 years... Lakers got Kobe for $48m for 2 years... how much dumber do the Buss kids look now?

I know, it was legacy money... but you still have to consider that if LA is rebuilding, you are going to need cap space to sign the free agents. Had the Lakers waited until now to re-sign Kobe, you think he would have still got/taken $48m?

He'd get like $20-$25m for 2 years.

Gotta take care of Kobe.. oh well.  They paid him and that will be it.  Didn't think we'd get any of the FAs this year anyways.  We need to draft a few players that can ball and be decent first.

Yeah they would have paid Kobe his $48m either way, whether it was during the season, yesterday or next week, he was getting his. Of course he isn't worth it but at least with Kobe on the team it makes them somewhat interesting if nothing else for the drama he is going to create when he requests to get traded or trashes his teammates. Management knew they weren't getting melo or lebron.

Just like with Jeter and the Yankees the Lakers want Kobe to play his entire career for them. He already brought them 5 rings so he has no reason to ask for a trade just to get a ring.

The big ticket is durant next year.. I think we might have a decent shot if we can somehow tank this season as well.  We need to get some young talent going.

Actually, KD isn't available until 2016.

I think the big tickets next year are Aldridge and KLove (if KLove doesn't get traded and then sign an extension). Marc Gasol, Rondo, Al Jefferson, Hibbert and Milsap are also available.

Does anyone think KD will pull an LBJ and leave OKC in 2016?

ugh.. 2016.. well have Kobe off the books at least.

I'm not in "love" with K love.  (took me all week to think of that).  I think he's a #3 guy at best that fills up the stat sheets.

Same here. If K Love was really good he would bring his team to the playoffs and get knocked out/lose. Lol  In my opinion he is all about the stats.

KLove is not LBJ... but put him on a team with other good players and it will change things (like putting Bosh with LBJ and Wade).

That's why CLE is trying to trade for him.

LBJ was pretty smart with his contract, he also has a player opt out after 1 season so he is also available next year (#The3Cision). Although he prefers playing at home, he doesn't want to lock in his options and can renegotiate to get more pieces or... take his talents elsewhere (which I doubt).
