Free Agent LBJ

NEW -> Contingent Buyer Assistance Program
Ahh... that makes sense.

Plus the Lakers have Kobe and the Clips have that crappy owner (for now).

And yes I'm kidding... the non-testosterone perspective is always welcome.

Did anyone NOT see this coming?  First Cavs get all high draft picks three years in a row.. then roll LBJ back in.

Dan Gilbert and Quicken loans must have some muscle man.

Now the question is where will everyone else go?

Rumor is CLE is trying hard to trade for KLove (bye bye failed pick Bennett or maybe even Wiggins).

Bosh is rumored to sign with Houston... so that leaves poor Wade who opted out probably now having to re-sign for less money (he got Decisioned!).

Chi and NY are now top of the list for Melo... Kobe doesn't seem to be doing a very good recruiting job... although to make room for Bosh, HOU is looking to trade Lin to the Lakers.

At least Homie got his wish:

wade will get the same money he would have over the next four years. if he didnt opt out he would have had 42M over the next two years. then he would be 34, at that point he gets what, 8-10M per for another two years? so that would put him at 62M over four years. in the new contract he gets 4 years 60M? pretty much a wash except he locks in the two 10M years in this contract vs hoping he got 10M/year in the future. so he is probably better off now locking up those two extra years at 10M each. now the heat could even give him a little more, perhaps the kobe contract.

He's streaky for sure, but now he's a Laker, he's good in my book.  A decent PG that passes first will be semi new to the team.  We'll see if he survives Kobe Death stare

It shows that Lakers management don't care about the product on the floor. They have an opportunity to get Isiah Thomas in free agency.

This proves that Kobe is a free agent killer, which ensures the lakers will suck for the next two years. Now we will have to listen to 710 tell us how Lin isn't really that bad and that this was a great pickup for the lakers

Lin is only good because it provides us with an expiring contract.  LBJ had no chance of coming to LA.  Plus, not sure if any Laker fans actually wanted Melo to come... I'm really happy to hear that we aren't int he running anymore.  The big ticket is going to be Durant for next year.  Then Kobe's fat contract will expire a year after that.

Do you really think KD is going to come to LA? That would be awesome but there will have to be some other pieces in LA for that to happen.

I wanted the IT2/GregMonroe tandem to happen... don't think that can but I much prefer IT2 over Linjury-prone.

Gasol might be headed for NY.

Gasol is good, good at complaining.

Wasn't that supposed to be Nash?

I think you meant "a PG that turns over first", Linjury averaged over 2.5 TOs per game.

I think Kendall Marshall is probably better than Lin at this point.

Huh... looks like Bosh is staying in Miami.

I understand the money aspect... but why?!? Maybe he likes the South Beach lifestyle and I will admit it will still be harder to win in the West even with The Beard and D12.

Miami could offer him more money. If you were selling a domain name you owned and got offers for $88 million and $118 million which one would you take?

$30 million is nothing to squeeze at. He already has two rings. Most stars that take paycuts to win championships don't have any rings and are desperate to get one before they retire.

Before anyone ever cared where I would play basketball, I was a kid from Northeast Ohio. It?s where I walked. It?s where I ran. It?s where I cried. It?s where I bled. It holds a special place in my heart. People there have seen me grow up. I sometimes feel like I?m their son. Their passion can be overwhelming. But it drives me. I want to give them hope when I can. I want to inspire them when I can. My relationship with Northeast Ohio is bigger than basketball. I didn?t realize that four years ago. I do now.

Remember when I was sitting up there at the Boys & Girls Club in 2010? I was thinking, This is really tough. I could feel it. I was leaving something I had spent a long time creating. If I had to do it all over again, I?d obviously do things differently, but I?d still have left. Miami, for me, has been almost like college for other kids. These past four years helped raise me into who I am. I became a better player and a better man. I learned from a franchise that had been where I wanted to go. I will always think of Miami as my second home. Without the experiences I had there, I wouldn?t be able to do what I?m doing today.

I went to Miami because of D-Wade and CB. We made sacrifices to keep UD. I loved becoming a big bro to Rio. I believed we could do something magical if we came together. And that?s exactly what we did! The hardest thing to leave is what I built with those guys. I?ve talked to some of them and will talk to others. Nothing will ever change what we accomplished. We are brothers for life.  I also want to thank Micky Arison and Pat Riley for giving me an amazing four years.

I?m doing this essay because I want an opportunity to explain myself uninterrupted. I don?t want anyone thinking: He and Erik Spoelstra didn?t get along. ? He and Riles didn?t get along. ? The Heat couldn?t put the right team together. That?s absolutely not true.

I?m not having a press conference or a party. After this, it?s time to get to work.

When I left Cleveland, I was on a mission. I was seeking championships, and we won two. But Miami already knew that feeling. Our city hasn?t had that feeling in a long, long, long time. My goal is still to win as many titles as possible, no question. But what?s most important for me is bringing one trophy back to Northeast Ohio.

I always believed that I?d return to Cleveland and finish my career there. I just didn?t know when. After the season, free agency wasn?t even a thought. But I have two boys and my wife, Savannah, is pregnant with a girl. I started thinking about what it would be like to raise my family in my hometown. I looked at other teams, but I wasn?t going to leave Miami for anywhere except Cleveland. The more time passed, the more it felt right. This is what makes me happy.

To make the move I needed the support of my wife and my mom, who can be very tough. The letter from Dan Gilbert, the booing of the Cleveland fans, the jerseys being burned -- seeing all that was hard for them. My emotions were more mixed. It was easy to say, ?OK, I don?t want to deal with these people ever again.? But then you think about the other side. What if I were a kid who looked up to an athlete, and that athlete made me want to do better in my own life, and then he left? How would I react? I?ve met with Dan, face-to-face, man-to-man. We?ve talked it out. Everybody makes mistakes. I?ve made mistakes as well. Who am I to hold a grudge?

I?m not promising a championship. I know how hard that is to deliver. We?re not ready right now. No way. Of course, I want to win next year, but I?m realistic. It will be a long process, much longer than it was in 2010. My patience will get tested. I know that. I?m going into a situation with a young team and a new coach. I will be the old head. But I get a thrill out of bringing a group together and helping them reach a place they didn?t know they could go. I see myself as a mentor now and I?m excited to lead some of these talented young guys. I think I can help Kyrie Irving become one of the best point guards in our league. I think I can help elevate Tristan Thompson and Dion Waiters. And I can?t wait to reunite with Anderson Varejao, one of my favorite teammates.

But this is not about the roster or the organization. I feel my calling here goes above basketball. I have a responsibility to lead, in more ways than one, and I take that very seriously. My presence can make a difference in Miami, but I think it can mean more where I?m from. I want kids in Northeast Ohio, like the hundreds of Akron third-graders I sponsor through my foundation, to realize that there?s no better place to grow up. Maybe some of them will come home after college and start a family or open a business. That would make me smile. Our community, which has struggled so much, needs all the talent it can get.

In Northeast Ohio, nothing is given. Everything is earned. You work for what you have.

I?m ready to accept the challenge. I?m coming home.

I don't think even Miami will give Wade a 4-year for $60m although they might have to now that LBJ bolted.

Wade isn't the same player he was even just 1 or 2 years ago. I doubt he has much left in 2 years, he might not even be able to play year 3 and 4.

Since they maxed out on Bosh at $118m for 5 years, we might be looking at a 2-year deal for less than $40m with management probably telling DWade that they don't want to Kobe-block their salary cap considering that KD and Westie will be available in a couple of years. But it also depends if CHI tenders an offer.

I think for Bosh, it wasn't just the money as he would be more of the focus now in MIA. And yes, the $30m is a big difference but MIA only offered that once they knew LBJ was gone (I doubt they would have offered that if LBJ stayed... they would have even let him go to HOU).

It's amazing how one player can affect NBA free agency like this. Next season will be very interesting to watch (like WTT said) because of the shuffling.
