For Winelovers in Irvine

It seems there are quite a few of us, and I am a total foodie and go eat out all the time. This is a really cool sounding place I found by accident, but will be going to not this weekend but nest coming weekend Saturday night. For wine lovers looking for a Wine bar, this place sounds mighty nice:

Symposium

If anyone has tried this place, please give us a review. Otherwise I will post a review when I check this place out.

Enjoy!

I like that place, but I think it's a bit overpriced.

If you are free on Saturday, it's wine dinner night at Memphis at the Santora. Five courses with wine for $65, which is a great deal for these kinds of things. This Saturday features wines from Spain.

Right now, I am on a Foie Gras/Pate obsession. This saturday I am heading out to Social Hollywood for some Foie Gras tasting and not ot mention MOJITOS!!! Yumumumumum...They will be the death of me...but I will love every second of it.

BTW - Memphis is scheduled in on the 30th of Aug (UGH) but I hope to fit it in sooner. Thanks for the tip EVA. Oh also...would it be too much to ask to have an informal review from you of the place from atmosphere/service/etc? I'm curious to know.

Actually, there are a lot of general dining threads and a wine thread. As I always say, "try the search function." :)

I've been to Memphis multiple times for lunch and dinner. The food is dependably good and so is the service. It's not Michelin star level, but given that the menu tops out at a $22 entree (I think), it is not reasonable to expect that. (Hello, casual dining!) It's kind of a hipster place, but my square self does not feel at all uncomfortable there. My only real pet peeve is that the menu can be a bit limited if you go often enough. They offer a fresh berry margarita that is very good.

Edit: I've also been to wine dinners at, among others, The Hobbit and the Anaheim White House. While The Hobbit is very good and a singular experience, I find that the Anaheim White House offers better value - and I think even better food.

You're going to hate me...I meant for the symposium and only realized too late I did not clarify that. Although honestly it's good to know about Memphis's review also so thank you for that also.

(Searching threads now FYI)

Oh, no worries. Symposium offers wine by the glass and various flights. They may also offer wine by the bottle, but I don't recall. I really like their meat and cheese plate - and some of their wines need to be paired with food to taste right. It's a fun place, but I'm not sure if you are a serious wine drinker that you would enjoy the flights.

A place I really need to do a tasting at is Wine Exchange. I find their selection and pricing to be very good - even better than Hi-Time (sorry, Skek!). I just never think of going to a tasting until its too late.

Oh, and since I only got through one semester of Japanese, what does your name translate out to?

Ha! I was wondering the same for your name, here are my guesses:

1. From an Anime OR

2. After Serpahim from MegaTokyo OR

3. I am guessing it means angel, so possibly just because you like angels OR

4. From one of the characters in a Final Fantasy game OR

5. Okay I am out of guesses...

As you can see from my avatar, Kawakono Hiru is the name of my Shiba. Kawakono - Little River I believe and Hiru - Noon or Day.

He was named such by my breeder because his brother had an opposite darker coloration then Hiru, his brother was named Yoru - Evening or Night.

Here is the link to the breeder, I highly recommend her to anyone interested in a Shiba-ken.

Kawako

And here is an image of Hiru and his brother when they were just born below:

I'll leave it to you to decide which is which. :)

Here is Hiru at 12 weeks:

Oh, how absolutely precious they are!

**Smacks forehead for missing hiru. Sensee would be very disappointed.**

My name comes from a silly incident many, many years ago. I had belonged to this community services club and got to know a lot of people at similar clubs around the country. Typically the clubs were organized by geography (city / county), but my far-flung friends and I thought it would be fun if we formed a group for us and any other friends we might make. Since you could officially only belong to one club, we had to come up with fake names. There was a local LA swing band that was popular at the time with a song I really liked called "Bad Seraphim." So I started playing around with that to come up with my fake name and . . . well, there you go.

ok, we need to abbreviate your name...so pick a nickname derived from your avatar name. Hiru?

Too bad I'm not working or I would have gotten you primo parking for Social ! ;) Please be careful, we have had many street robberies occur on Sunset when ppl exit the clubs.

Ah, Hollywood....where OUR Pinkberry stays open until 3:00 AM ! (Cantaloop...you should call your CL Hollywood friends and tell them to extend their hours!)

Kawa,

That is an awsome avatar name!

Trooper,

What kind of robberies? I'm usually not up that way, but I hope everything goes well with you.

-bix

Bix,

They run the gamut, but usually involve a car pulling up alongside a pedestrian....passenger jumps out with a gun and jacks them for purse/wallet/cell phone. Dumb asses don't know enough to turn the phone off though....we immediately set to work "pinging" it. Those things are like homing beacons.

And just last night we arrested a 15 year old doing just such a thing...in a fairly decent neighborhood (Waring/Willoughby). His homies got away....this time. Next time the Ghetto Bird will catch 'em.

Oh yeah, and we had another robber (7/11) manage to free himself from a security guard who was in the process of handcuffing him (this was really just a "beer run"...with a couple of punches). Genius managed to knock the guard over and hoof it outta there....only to show up in Glendale at a local hospital at 6 AM this morning.....wanting the handcuff cut off. The hospital called PD of course, Glendale called us....and bingo. Last night's winner of America's Stupidest Criminal.

edit .

Ya Hiru sounds good for a nickname.

About the robberies though, that scares me...but I am going to be with a pretty large crowd. It's a birthday party, and I should be in a van with possibly 5 other girls. Then there are also others meeting us there. Do you think we will be safe with a large crowd (about 10 people or so)?

So is EvaLSeraphim = EviLSeraphim = Bad Seraphim ? Or am I over analyzing again? I tend to do that....

Hiru, you will be fine in a larger crowd of people. Just keep your eyes and ears open to approaching vehicles....and scream REALLY loud if anything happens (but of course, if it does, give up your goods without a fight.)

I have heard of this happening from my dad...but I thought he was just being paranoid!

More info please.

Heard something about this second hand last week.

The Bacchus place over by me is out of control with its prices.

I am boycotting it for the short term.

Need a new place.
