The answer is: every person who started their own business from scratch and was successful enough to require help, so they hired people. Remakably, these kinds of businesses don't require anything more than customers and hard work. If your taxes go up, you have a choice rather than just fire people; you can charge more for your services, you can cut salaries across the board, or you can accept a lower profit margin. Your tax rate does not dictate a single course of action, even if your attitude does.

Thanks. I am obviously concerned with how the election impacts me personally, but again, as this is a bear board obviously dissent of any kind isn't tolerated.

When I made my post it was exactly 21 minutes after the polls closed here in California. I was watching McCain give his concession speech. Obama hasn't done ANYTHING and you're tossing him under the bus.

I'm an American first, a capitalist second, and a Democrat somewhere past being a NASCAR fan.

IMO your comments immediately following the close of polls are waaaaaaaayyy out of line.

I am also an American first, a capitalist second, and a Libertarian somewhere after about a gazillion other things, but I've never been a Nascar fan. The herd mentality here cracks me up, its amazing really to see what a bunch of people who all agree about the housing market and can expound on their knowledge of it for hours each day and who consider themselves to be the smart ones, are so resistant to any ideas or statements but their own.

Well, it would be a start if you would let him get sworn in first, and if that threshold is too high, actually DO SOMETHING before you . Last time I checked, our President is George W. Bush.

I kind of agree with Nancy. My family came here with practically zero money, we had to leave the old country in a very short time. The only luck we had was landed in OC where jobs were plentiful. My relatives and myselfs all had to work in low paying jobs that we would never have thought of working in the old country. BTW, I came from a family with 2 chaufeurs, 3-5 maids, a cook, etc.. However, we had no problem with menial jobs such as cleaning house for a minimum wage to earn a living. Fast forward now, we all are able to be middle class and living the american dream. Our parents were not able to come help us financially.

I want Obama to grow the pie not just divide the pie equally.
 
The US can't go on borrowing forever. We either have to make more or spend less. In terms of spending, Defense, Social Security, and Medicare take up 60% of our budget. I say we cut Defense in half. If that's not possible, then we need to increase tax revenues. Should we take from those who are just getting by? Or should we take from those with enough wealth to last years and years without working?

Heck, I don't even mind if they cut Social Security and Medicare in half - I'm not benefitting from either program. My point is, to tackle any financial problem, you need to focus on the costliest items first.

How have we grown the pie last 8 years? What jobs were created? Jobs were lost, incomes fell. An average American makes less today than 8 years ago and this doesn't include costs.

Whatever pie we had the last year, it has been shared overseas. I'd rather if anything have Obama share the pie with fellow Americans.

I'm not refering to GWB, he is not a good example, this is why Obama is elected for president. We are looking forward to the next 8-years.
 
Just like you Westparker, my family came here with nothing other than 4 luggage bags in early 90s. (read my quick summary I posted earlier in this thread)

However, I also wouldn't have been able to go to college if it wasn't for the various grants setup by the Clinton administration.

Sure there will be lazy people that will take advantage of government programs and not add value, but you still have to have them and take that chance.

If you don't bring up the middle class to the point where they earn more, then how can they consume higher quality goods that are made by corporations?

We are seeing first hand what happens when middle class slips and can't spend; corps lose profits. You can't expect the middle class to keep charging their credit cards because they are already maxed.

I went to college before Clinton got to set up the grants. I was poor enough that I got Grants and Scholarships. College costs me literately nothing compare to today.
