About six months ago I got a fix it ticket in Irvine for a burned out head light. I fixed the problem immediately but forgot to sign off on it. I did not receive any follow up notice from the court because the officer put my old address on the ticket. To make a long story short, DMV will not renew my license unless I pay a whopping $438 fine.



Is there a way to fight this? Help Trooper.

<p>From my experience ( I used to own a highly modified vehicle and fix it ticket was a norm for me), you are solely responsible for following up on all violation/tickets regardless if you never received the notification from the court regarding the matter. The citation that was handed to you by the officer is a binding obligation on your behalf unfortunately.</p>

<p>In your case, I would recommend going down to the Irvine courthouse ( i believe it's off Jamboree and near Campus). Go see a clerk there and explain the situation to see if there's a way to fix the situation. Tell them that you moved and did not receive notifications from the court regarding the matter. It was an honest mistake and if possible, if you can see a judge to clear the situation or atleast lower the fine. I would start from the court first, then try to deal with the DMV. 6 months is a long time ...so time may be against you. </p>

All of what iceeman said and this: get the fix signed off, so the judge doesn't have to bother asking you about it.
 
<p>ns. I'm sure the officer wrote down your "old address" because that was what was on your license and registration when he wrote the ticket. Iceeman and Nude are both correct. I don't know how contesting tickets works in Irvine, in L.A. it hardly ever works. It's <em>revenue</em>, after all ! </p>

From experience it depends on the judge. Get the clerk to get you in front of the judge. Have all your papers and sign-offs ready to go. Dress nicely and be pleasant in addressing the judge. Use "Your Honor" In addressing him. I would say

80% you will get it kicked down to something under $ 100.00. So its worth the time. It was an honest omission on a fixit

ticket. Also double check with the clerk and make sure you dont have a bench warrant for this violation.

<p>Been there done that... it cost me more in time, effort, and running around than paying the damn ticket. </p>

<p>I STILL own a incredibly modified car (100% street legal and has passed smog/inspection/Tech inspection 2x) also, so its easier to take your lumps and move on. </p>

<p>Now that I think about it. It more than likely went to warrant and thats why the bail is so high. They may have tacked on the failure to appear in the bail amount.</p>
