All, I'm sure I'm not the only one who has noticed that IR has added a tip jar. I donated because of the priceless info I've gleaned from this blog. IR must spend many uncompensated hours compiling this information, so let's say thanks.

<p>NIR, I can see in your situation how anonymity is key. However, I personally don't mind that IR would see my true name as I'm still "anonymous" technically. Unless he Googles me, and then it might get interesting ! </p>

<p>And to anyone interested in how this "tip" actually takes place, it's via <a href="http://www.Paypal.com">www.Paypal.com</a> I already had an account, as it is how I purchase things on eBay. Yes, you will have to link to your bank account or credit card to donate, but in the 6 years I've had the account, I've never had a problem. The company has an ultra secure website, or I wouldn't have gone near it. </p>

<p>Regarding anonymity. The donations will come through to IR with your true name, but not your IHB "handle"....so he would be guessing who you were anyways. </p>
 
<p>Even if you donate in your real name how would we know that it is NIR or Trooper? My paypal account is in a different handle so if I donated and if zovall and the rest of the crew didn't know my real name they would never know that it was graphrix. Maybe you can have your husband get a paypal account.</p>

<p>Ok I swear I'm not begging for money and just the thought that NIR was considering to donate is cool enough.</p>

<p>I will most likely end up donating but I personally am not a fan of blog tip jars. It's not that I don't enjoy reading the posts or participating in the forums. It is more the idea of tipping for something that should be able to make money on its own without needing tips. That is, there are many free magazines that make money from advertisers - if the content on this site is really as valuable as we feel, it should generate enough traffic and advertising dollars. Or, a site with all this valuable content and analysis should be able to find a better way to make money than a tip jar. Perhaps it can sell property dossiers with analysis for people who want the details of a particular property...or taking the community writeups and selling them to RE agents who want to impress potential buyers of a particular neighborhood.</p>

<p>My point is that there are better ways to make money than tips. </p>

<p>I'll be tipping! So much good information here, it has saved me from a few BAD choices. And it has also gotten me into a home or two that I turned around and sold (a flip, but a much needed rennovation flip).</p>

rkp, While I understand your logic, I....for one....am grateful to not have constant pop up ads from advertisers here on this page. It muddies up the content. I agree that IHB might be able to package this info and re-sell it somehow. IR, have you considered that ?
 
I don't want to work that hard. This is just a fun hobby.





I also don't like a bunch of ads on the page, so I have resisted most advertising. Zovall would probably like to do more, but I like the simplicity of the blog without all the intrusive ads.





There is a purity of spirit that comes from doing this without money as a motivation. The tip jar isn't a money making idea, it is another way people can express their gratitude for the work we do. If nobody donated, I would still do this.
