Here's a thread where we can share some ideas for kids' snacks for summertime (present) or any time.

I will start with one I made today:

Apple Smiles

Printable recipe here.

Ingredients:

Smooth peanut butter
Red apple
Mini marshmallows
(I don't use the lemon juice as recommended because the kids eat these quickly.)

Directions:

-Cut the apple into 8 slices. I use an apple corer to get them even:

-Smear peanut butter on one side of each apple slice.
-Arrange marshmallows as teeth on one slice, on top of the peanut butter.
-Put another slice with peanut butter side face-down on top of teeth.
-Repeat with remaining slices.

These are easy and fun. The kids think they are hilarious.  :)

Soy butter for kids with nut allergies?

Yes, absolutely. Feel free to substitute with sunflower butter, almond butter, or any other product for kids with peanut butter allergies. It should secure the "teeth" just fine.

I have a slight obsession with Jello cups and other Jello products and with creative recipes for kids and holidays. There are two GREAT websites for these.

The BEST website to find more Jello recipes than you can make in a lifetime is: Kraft Foods

The site I heart the most for really creative recipes for kids and holidays is: Bright Ideas by Mars Corporation
I think I've made 90% of all their holiday recipes. Super good ideas that you can use to create an entire themed menu!

A couple good kid summer recipes from Kraft:

Fourth of July is coming up... time to start thinking about that!

Is there anyone who HASN'T seen a flag cake?

You don't necessarily need the recipe above. The general idea is you bake any 9x13 cake you want. Top it with either white frosting or Coolwhip. Add fresh blueberries in the upper left corner. Arrange sliced strawberries horizontally into stripes. Instead of slicing the berries you can also cut them in half length-wise and put then cut-side down and may substitute cake for a pan of Jello like this:

Or, use raspberries.

Rather than make them so bulky, for kids I would use one of these popsicle molds which you can get at Target:

For slow eaters on hot days, they even make them with a way to drink the spills.  :)

Great ideas SoCal! I like the Apple smiles- healthy, and easy. Should be a good snack in lunch boxes once school starts.
Not so creative, not so hard-working parents can also take an easier route..Buy organic lemonades and juices from Trader Joes and freeze them to make pops ;-)

Angry Bird Bagels

Olive eyebrows. Cheddar nose.
Works just as well with cream cheese spread on the bagel beneath the salami.
