Exterior retractable solar shade

If you haven't built your home yet, you should wait to see how much sun is actually going to come into that area once you move in.  I almost bit the bullet and bought one of these... but the design center forgot to add it.

Long story, but we didn't end up getting it or getting charged for it.  We move in and realize that the part of the trellis that the solar shade was to cover was on the north side of the house.  It would have cast a pretty decent shadow in our living room to give the effect of being in a cave.

We are very glad we didn't do it now.
I was actually looking for one that covers sliding doors, but I'm also thinking about retractable shade for trellis.
It would be nice to have when you want to sit outside and retract when not needed.
I just don't like solar shade that is fixed and partially let light thru.
My home gets tons of light in dining and great rooms.
