Can't believe Proposition 30 passed.  What a BS prop.
Totally agree.

This is one of those things I hate... raising taxes under the guise of "education". Let the citizens and private companies handle the education shortfalls... local communities should take care of it.

Great...all those kids in the projects will just have to collect bullets and guns to fund their schools.
I understand the sentiment... but that goes back to becoming a "welfare state".

I grew up near the projects but my parents worked hard so we didn't have to stay there... and both without a college education... so people just have to WANT to help themselves.

I think I talked about this before but somehow Americans are the greatest and most hardworking people in the history of human civilization until they get a whiff of welfare or food stamps...then they become lazy bums.

Most people want to help themselves...very few people want to be on welfare or food stamps.  You are always going to have a portion of society who don't pull their own weight but I do not believe that is the vast majority of people in this country.

I believe the number of Americans on government support is increasing and at all time high. It is difficult to come off entitlements.

Welcome to Welfare America - self-sustaining death spiral to financial ruin

Just a little down today aren't we?  Seriously, check out the economic record of the past Democratic presidents.  Economy is move upward slowly but surely.  People are getting jobs, housing prices are going up, car industries saved, green jobs coming online, hopefully more infrastructure/education spending to revitalize this country.

Oh, BTW how is the draconian cut-only austerity measures imposed by the EU working out?  It?s almost as if cutting spending by itself hurts economies and prevents recovery. Weird...clearly no one saw that coming.  Not early 1930s and 1980s US or Japan of the last twenty years.

The reason why Americans on government support is at all time high is based upon a million reason but primarily because 1) we are coming off the biggest economic rescission/depression since the Great Depression, 2) wages have been flat in the last 30 years which results in people having little or no savings, 3) people spent like drunken sailors during the real estate bubble and bought assets they can't afford which mean severe debt and even loss of house, and 4) societal changes which extended families no longer live close to each and/or drift apart relationally.

No, it is not hard to come off of entitlements if you have a viable prospect of a job.  The average welfare check is about $450 a month in California plus about $150/month in food stamps.  $600 a month is not going to make anyone comfortable or lazy.  There are a lot of external factors such as lack of affordable child care, lack of transportation, and lack of good health that prevent people from working.

Seriously, a significant portion Americans received government assistance during the Great Depression and later became the "Greatest Generation" by defeating facism and building this country as the most power nation in the world (also greatly aided by government assistance).  Apparently they were able to shake off the malaise of entitlements

I don't mean to be rude but I find that GOPs often simplify things so that they can deride/devalue them.  Most people would love to work and make a living wage to support their family.  It is a myth that welfare receipients just sit around and laugh at working people.

Will there ever be an Electoral College reform?

I still find the "win-it-all" policy strange... it's not like we're back in the old days where you vote by state... if it can't be a popular vote, at least break up the states by electoral vote so we don't have the presidency decided by swing states (why does Ohio get to choose our next prez?).

It seems so archaic... might as well turn off the electricity like Revolution.

You know... I was kidding about this.

Where are you winex? You need to take your lumps as much as you like to deal them.

Don't be a sore loser, come back here and tell us why your predictions failed. You still never fully answered my question of what you don't like about Romney.
