Does Mortgage Protection Plan really work?

Hello All,



I searched but couldn't find anything. Recently we are being bombarded by snail mails about Mortgage Protection Plan. It said if we lost our job, the plan will pay your mortgage up to 6 months and if you die they will pay the full loan amount. Furthermore, on the letter it said it MAY count towards your mortgage if you don't use the plan. Does this really work or it is some sort of scam?
