Does anyone use a water softener system?

Wanted to know what your feelings are about maintaining the system? Is it too much work? Do the benefits justify the cost?

I just had one installed.  It's good if someone in your family has a skin problem.  I was told that all I have to do is keep refilling the salt.

my parents installed one a few years back and it is SWEET - they are really happy with it and the maintenance on it has been so easy (or non existent?) that it has never been mentioned to me and it WOULD have been complained about. I certainly heard plenty about hte saltwater pool (which they still recommend but now they have tips of things to avoid, etc)
