Do you live in or want to live in Irvine?

Explanation of my "other" vote: I like to live near my workplace. My workplace is not in Irvine, so I don't live there, but I wouldn't rule it out EVAR.
 
I live in Irvine and would love to stay here, but median housing has to come down about 4x of median income to be affordable. Wife moved from West LA and loves it here, would not want to raise a family any where else.
 
I would live somewhere else as long as it is Irvine-esque. So far have not discovered that place, but I will keep looking and report back if I find it.

Since Graph and I are neighbors, it might suprise people to know I chose his option. I got enough institution going on without moving to Kingdom of Irvine.

Well... you have different needs than most... you just need a garage to work on your car and some land to grow corn. Plus you need to live near where you or your wife works... or a casino... hehe.

I grew up in Irvine and like many things about it. However, I am also a DINK so many of its fine qualities matter very little to me.

I feel that the longer we wait to buy the less likely we will be to buy in Irvine. My wife prefers to be closer to the beach and I strongly prefer MCM. We may be able to find something that makes both of us happy.

A one liner introductory text is a lame inpersonation of us and especially to RC.
 
I will buy whichever area has the home that I'm looking for and is at least at rental parity. I doubt that it will be Irvine because it will be hard to find what I want (single story with a large yard) and will probably never get to rental parity due to the demand from folks with kids. So I guess I'll end up living by Graph/No_Vas.
 
I would love to live in Irvine but not in a dwelling in Irvine. Planning has been the best in this country but architecture is not sychronized with the outstanding spirit of communities.
 
I do think this poll/thread should be moved as it is asking for participation from all members. While I know that you IHO like to emphasize that this " is" an IRVINE housing blog in name, the site has been such a wealth of information for anyone interested in RE in OC as a whole that it really is not an Irvine Housing Blog in the forums.

There are many senior members who contribute a large number of informative posts who really aren't yearning to live in Irvine... graph, cayci, freedom, bk, tmare, awgee, our sorely missed EvaL, etc.... I'm sure I'm leaving out others, but just a first thought on who the contributors that I know of who add much to the value of IHB that just aren't feeling it for Irvine. What would the beloved IHB be without these people? Certainly not the rich, educational, entertaining, etc... site that we all enjoy and value.

I almost think that all polls should go in off topic, but I'm not sure how many of the non active members or lurkers go there, so OC RE might be a good place.
 
Live here and continue to live here. There is something that makes me feel at home in irvine ;-) *Don't say other Asians because I moved from Bay area to Pasadena to Irvine*
 
Currently live in Irvine, for nearly four years now. Open to looking at other nearby options, but the longer we wait to buy (and the deeper child gets into school career) the less likely we are to leave the friendly confines of Irvine, even if it means settling for less house here.

I actually had more to write but I didn't want to skew the poll. I ended up putting the bulk of what I wanted to say into the parenthetic descriptors.

Brevity sometimes has a place.
 
When I had to go to an office in Irvine I wanted to live there. Now it doesn't really matter as much. I also have seen the small lots and just am not interested. Tustin, however, is a decent commute from any number of Irvine tech jobs I could have in the future so it seems to be a happy medium.
 
North of Y, West of the 405, and south of the bay. It is pretty narrow opportunity set, but within it the Irvine swath is the most affordable. Commuting time, schools, build quality and weather are my primary considerations.

I totally agree with you.

I think why I finally decided to put it here is that it is mainly about Irvine real estate. The poll basically asks if you want to live in Irvine or not. A more General OC Real Estate poll would probably be "What Orange County city do you want to live in?" (hint hint... next poll anyone?).

And I just want to clarify about why I say this is an Irvine website. I don't say that to say it is ONLY an Irvine website, but when posters complain about other posters saying how great Irvine is... they should be aware that this is going to be common for something called the "Irvine Housing Blog". I'm not going to go to a Toyota forum and wonder why posters are praising Toyotas when I think Nissans are better.

The funny thing about this forum is although the poll shows that most want to live in Irvine... the most vocal posters don't want to live in Irvine... vehemently. It creates an interesting dichotomy that I frequently find myself in. It's part of the reason why I posted this poll.
 
8 out of 10 top posters are not interested in Irvine because of property size, privacy and identity. Identity is when you can describe the house with landmark feature to friends visiting you for the first time without having to resort to a number. Landmarks like house with a porch, a swing hung from a large front yard tree, a front court yard wall with Malibu tiles, White Adirondack chairs on the front lawn, the only house with a frontal 3 car garages, Xeriscape Cactus garden next to the front door, The house with a steep fairytale style roof, a white Colonial house with clapboard sidings and etc.

Buyers bought outside of Irvine mainly for the larger properties and more privacy. School was not the most important factor. Absence of school age children in household is another factor. I have heard families bought houses in good school district purely for the children's future and postpone their perfect house desire until the kids are out of school.

Identity is not having a street number. i.e. "Elizabeth II, Reg., Windsor Castle, England."
