Do you have to pay to park on Irvine streets?

That is one scary dude writing that article, especially his opposition to a benign organization called "Mayors Against Illegal Guns."
 
I expect near-riots in opposition to this although I would absolutely LOVE that idea. Each household can get 3 permits under the proposal. That means if you have a 2 car garage, you can still legally park FIVE cars.

After being a near victim of vehicular manslaughter at least half a dozen times, I am completely onboard with parking fascism. People who create zero visibility by parking their cars all the way to the very edge of common driveways and street corners are bad enough. Then there are idiots who actually park their cars past the indented sections of the curb at corners. That causes cars making turns at the intersections to have to drive on the opposite side of the street to pass the parked cars.

Our HOA has approached the city about red zoning some of the curbs in the development. At first the response from the city was that they couldn't do it due to an existing parking agreement with the developer, but they recently said there might be a loophole. I'm all for it. Another drastic step being considered is garage inspections. Oh no, the HOA nazi's can't do that, can they? In many neighborhoods, yes, they probably can. Check your CC&R's, clean out your garage, and stop trying to kill me!
 
But the question is will the Irvine Police department (or the City of Irvine in general) really DO anything about it? I'm lucky to get them to follow through with pressing charges when a group of people are breaking and entering private property in my community, get caught (by me), apprehended and all they get is a TRESPASSING violation.

I think this is just for Irvine to get some $$ for buying the passes, but no one will really follow through. This community is only safe because nothing is every reported (or reported enough) officially. It really burns my britches.
 
The city is not telling you the truth. When projects were submitted to the city the planners only gave a 2 car stall parking credit in front of each detached condo cluster when in fact 4 cars could physically fit between motor court driveways.

The question was asked to paint both end curbs red to prevent cars parked too close to driveways blocking the visibility of street traffic. The city did not agree to the red painted curbs because the planner felt the extra 80% of additional stalls over the required should alleviate parking congestion.

The flare planters are chokers. Its purpose was to calm traffic speed and eliminate parking at critical street intersections as well as breaking up the unsightly long run of street curbs. The extra wide planter also could accommodate a larger tree. No one at the city is enforcing the curb side painting for the no parking zones.

CC&R did mention no parking at the chokers.

HA! No, no. I don't think so! I've just been living in Irvine for long enough to grow weary. I've been a OC resident my whole life (actually 4th generation being born and raised in OC) and this once beautiful and well planed city has just gone to crap. It infuriates me. Heh.
 
An overnight parking permit makes a great deal of sense, as it tends to reduce night time burglaries. Cerritos has had an overnight rule for quite sometime, although the permits are easy to get.

As for Irvine no longer being well-planned, I think the wrong term may have been chosen. Irvine is now more planned than ever, but the density of the developments has increased.

I live in Irvine and I think this is a great idea. I'm tired of people blocking the places for me to put my trash cans out on trash day. They also park their cars in front of my house and leave trash all over the place. I would love to see these inconsiderate jerks finally get some frustration. The worst part is these people don't even use their garages because they are so filled with junk. Just clean out your garage already!

I agree with a lot of what you said. I have the odd (or perhaps "common") situation of having a two car garage that fits exactly two cars. This is a problem because I cannot store my trash cans out of sight as required by the CC&Rs, unless I put them in the garage, thus leaving me -1 parking space. {sigh}

PARKING revolucion! It is your gawddamn given right to uphold the HOA rules, and even more so the CC&Rs. Lets take down these parking bastards one at a time! Once the city realizes our revolucion means business... then we can take over the entire city! I have plenty of guns and ammo for such a revolucion, and awgee has the gold... lets take down these bastards before they can takeover us! We can get some red paint too. Are you with me brother?

Likely not, given that the CC&Rs provided that garages were to be used first and foremost for cars.

You know... HOAs have a fiduciary obligation to their members to enforce the CC&Rs. If they are not, you may wish to ask them (nicely!) to do so. Have your copy handy and cite specific provisions that are going unenforced. Of course, you may reap the whirlwind on that if you are not living up to the letter yourself. (Goose, gander, etc.)
