Deciding on carpet...

So we're trying to decide on our carpet,  at first I wanted to go as plush as possible.. Nylon, dense, the type you can spell your name out in with your finger... but better half countered that it looked dated.  Looked at a few samples at Tompkins.. patterned seems popular, and has come down in price recently..  So we're thinking of a cut and loop like this

or a random mixed berber/plush.. decisions

I think that's exactly the carpet we have... maybe a tad darker shade.

It actually feels pretty soft on the feet and if you get a thick pad, walking on it is comfortable.

That's funny.  I think I have the exact same carpet as well.  I went with the 1/2 padding which makes walking on this carpet extremely comfortable.

I actually have that exact same pattern but one shade lighter downstairs in my den.  :o

Want something durable, since it will go on stairs as well, hate to vacuum stairs every week to get that plush look, not good for the back.

That pattern is from Royalty Carpet, local in Irvine.

This is the exact same carpet I had in my condo bedrooms.  I found that it flattens really easily in high traffic areas, and the pattern disappeared in a few days.  Vacuuming will "refluff" it and get the pattern back, but after a few months, I couldn't get the pattern back on some areas and that area will look really worn out.  Made the carpet look old after only a few months.  Although after I moved out of the condo, I had the carpet shampooed, and it seems to refresh it quite nicely.  I guess my conclusion is that it's not easy to maintain.

That's interesting... we've had that carpet for over 3 years and no pattern disappearance. In fact, we had the same style in our previous home for 3 years and it wore well too.

I find that this carpet is actually very easy to clean and maintain... and Legos tend to not get lost in them. :)

I looked closer at our carpet and it isn't exactly the same, the one we had in our previous was closer to PS9's... the one we have now looks like this:

Supposed to have Tompkins install my carpet today, got a call around 7:50 morning of saying the installer threw his back out, and is now at the chiropractor and wants to move it to Tuesday.  Called my sales guy at Tompkins and was told they're looking for installers but most likely can't do it today.  Really disappointed with them.. Paid more at Tompkins for service and in the end still got bad service.  Everyone I talked to were very defensive and made excuse after excuse after excuse (really chiropractor at 7am?).  I asked to have the owner/boss call me.  I asked for 10% to cover my expenses to get a day off work and to reschedule, they said no.  Will see what happens.

They were right on time for my install.  Finished a little ahead of schedule too (said it would take 5 hours but it took a little more than 4 hours).  Keep us posted.

Spoke with sale guy again, after a little "push" able to get the 10% off and reschedule for Wed, this will delay our move in date, annoying.

NY carpet was about $400 less than Tompkins for a similar Royalty carpet.  My neighbor went with them, they seem happy.  I saw them do the install for my neighbor, not sure if it was the norm, but they were laying the carpet out on the street to cut!  It was just indoor carpet on bare asphalt!  If that's the norm, I do not want to be around when my carpet is installed...

Thanks for the heads up.  We've got them scheduled to do an install on Wednesday.

How's ur install coming along?  Mine is finishing up now, took the whole day, started at 8:30am.  Mentioned they usually have 4-5 guys but had to split up today down to a 3 man team

They came out at 9:30am (had a little trouble finding the place) and finished by around 1:30pm.  We had a 2 man team come out.  They installed ~80 square yards including the stairs.

So carpet is now done.. installed about 1500 sq ft of this

My wife made a last minute change on color, so now we have the EXACT color as our previous house.. we are so boring.  But I really like the feel of this cut/loop from Royalty carpet.  Believe it is called Santa Maria in Kangaroo color (Tompkins have there own names/styles for these, kinda like how the mattress retailers do it to prevent comps).
